A Brief Biography
Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Italian immigrants, Gabriel and Teresina Capone. The family of ten was very poor. Capone had to repeat the sixth grade twice and after he was beat by the school's principal he never returned. After this he started hanging around with the town mobs. At a young age he started running errands for mob boss, Johnny Torio. When Torio stepped down and went back to Italy, Capone took his spot. He married Mae Coughlin at the age of 19 after the birth of their child, Albert Francis. Capone was arrested for the first time for hitting a parked taxi while drunk. In 1929 Capone was at the top for illegal liquor trade in Chicago. The police tried to arrest him multiple time but could never convict him of any crime. On June 5, 1931 Capone was arrested on 22 counts of income-tax invasion. In 1934 he was sent to Alcatraz because he had taken over in the Atlanta jail. Al Capone died on January 25, 1947.
