Save the Date - Kinder Graduation
Tuesday, May 21 - 5:00 P.M.
As we begin our last nine weeks of the 2023 - 2024 school year, we must begin to prepare ourselves as our Kindergarten Scholars take flight from the Menchaca nest.
One of the events that we look forward to most is our Kinder "Graduation" Ceremony. This year our event will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 5:00 P.M., at our Southside High School Stadium. Students will be wearing the traditional cap & gown set and will be recognized in front of their families. We hope to accommodate more family members and guests to join us by moving the event to the stadium.
Due to the extremely limited number of cap & gown sets we have on campus, we are providing an opportunity for parents to purchase the sets through Menchaca as a keepsake for your little one. This will also ensure uniformity for the ceremony. The price for the set (cap, gown and tassel) is $30. Please be sure to order your set by Friday, April 5th.
2023 - 2024 MECC Yearbook
On Sale Now - $30
The Menchaca yearbook is an essential part of preserving the collective experiences and memories your child has made this school year.
You can order your yearbook today at the front office or by sending in your payment to your child's teacher. Checks should be made to "Menchaca Early Childhood Center".
Positive Parenting Workshop - Thursday, March 28
Dealing with Disobedience
This workshop will provide examples of common forms of disobedience and some reasons why children have difficulty learning to follow instructions. A number of positive parenting strategies are then introduced to help parents develop a personal plan to prevent disobedience, teach their child limits, and also to manage disobedience.
The workshop will be held in the Menchaca Library from 9 - 11 AM on Thursday, March 28th.
If you any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Early Childhood Counselors at:

Notes from the Nurse
Check Your Vaccine Records
Students turning four years old in March need to have an up-to-date vaccine record turned in by April 8th to avoid being withdrawn from school.
If you need assistance with finding a location to get vaccines for your child, please contact Nurse Heather at heather.siebert@southsideisd.org or 210-882-1610 ext. 4059
Have Fun and Stay Safe!
When choosing your child's shoes in the morning, don't forget about P.E. and recess!
Sandals, Crocs, boots and heels might seem easy and cute, but they pose safety concerns during play. Help us prevent unnecessary injuries by sending your child in play-appropriate footwear. Shoes with Velcro straps or laces and rubber soles are highly recommended.
Witness the Magic
We are so excited to be able to give our students this wonderful opportunity to witness the magic of a solar eclipse right here at school!
On the day of the eclipse, each student will receive a pair of safe solar eclipse viewing glasses to participate in the viewing here at Menchaca. Please be sure to send your child to school so they don't miss out on all the learning and fun!
The viewing event on campus is reserved for students and staff only.
We Love Our MECC Community
Cheers to the Weekend!
Thanks to your continued generosity, all of our teachers and staff got to enjoy a nice cold beverage on Friday! Please know that these small tokens of appreciation go a long way and put a smile on everyone's face. Again, thank you for showing us so much love, because without you, we wouldn't be able to do this weekly treat for our staff.
* Donations can be made at anytime through our front office or morning drop-off area.*
School District Property
Please be advised that when on district property, the following restrictions will be strictly enforced by our Southside ISD Police Department.
The district property includes all parking lots, drop-off areas and the unpaved car holding area.
For any questions or concerns, please email our school resource officer at: michelle.contreras@southsideisd.org or contact Southside PD at (210) 882-1620
San Antonio Public Library: Dial-A-Story
For over 20 years the children of San Antonio have been calling in to Dial-A-Story to hear a children's story. The children's librarians record new stories every week -- one in English and one in Spanish. If you haven't dialed in lately -- you've missed lots of terrific books read by a contingent of enthusiastic librarians who love nothing more than to share stories with kids.
