Sussex Star Burst Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Dear Families,
We are excited about our upcoming Halloween Parade. We can’t wait to see all the students’ costumes and share in the festivities. As of right now, the forecasted rain looks like it will hold off until early evening. I will reassess the weather in the morning. Families will be notified only in the event of cancellation. A decision will be made by 8:00 am. Unfortunately, only HSA room parents will be allowed to attend the indoor parade and will be spectators in the gym.
Parade Details:
The parade starts @ 2:00 in the backfield. There is a map below for your convenience.
Spectators must stay in the spectator area for the entirety of the parade.
Parents that choose to dress in costume, please, no masks.
If you plan to pick up your student after the parade, please fill out the google form. https://forms.gle/BxBXKpfnYzfJ4NzY6
A photo station will be set up for each homeroom to stop, and one classroom photo will be present.
Our Halloween/Harvest Day Guidelines are:
All Halloween costumes must be school-appropriate for the age level
Students choosing to dress can wear their costumes to school
No weapons, swords, or handheld accessories
No Halloween Masks
Halloween costumes must be functional with the classroom environment (sitting and moving safely)
Classroom Celebrations will be coordinated with the homeroom teacher and class parents. No more than 2 class parents per class. All volunteers will sign in at the kiosk in the office (please bring your ID) and complete the Covid screener.
If a student does not participate in the Halloween/Festival parade, it is still a day dedicated to academic instruction. We encourage all students to attend the entire school day as our parade does not begin until 2:00 pm. An alternate activity will be available for those who do not celebrate during the parade. In the event of bad weather, the parade is moved indoors, and unfortunately, only HSA room parents will be allowed to attend and will go to the gym for the “parade.”
I am happy to share with you that for the 2022 - 2023 school year, Sussex Avenue will be receiving the services of 2 or 3 masters level social work interns:
Paige Boivin
Fabiola De La Barra
Ms. Boivin and Ms. De La Barra are excited to be a part of our school community to offer our students individual and group counseling services.

Just a few reminders
Students are dismissed at 3:20. If your child's dismissal procedures are different than originally planned, please complete the Sussex Avenue Note form to assist in proper notification and allow us to conduct dismissal most efficiently and safely. Please call the Main Office if there is a change in Dismissal Plans for your child afternoon. Without such notification, students will be sent home as outlined in their dismissal plan.
The end of the day in an elementary school is extremely hectic. We kindly ask that if you are picking up your child, you do so before 3:00 pm or complete the form and pick your child up at the side door at dismissal time. Please be advised students leaving before 3:18 are missing academic instruction.
Our Lobby Guard Kiosk, located in the main office, is back in operation and will be used for all visitors/contractors to the building. Visitors with an appointment must have their driver's license with them. They will sign in at the kiosk, scan their driver's license, and it will take their photo. The system will generate a visitor's pass with your image printed to be worn while in the building. Before leaving the building, you will sign out in the main office.
