BOYNTON ELEMENTARY
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
It is hard to believe that March is already here. It won’t be long until the warm weather arrives, and we are busy with all of our Spring activities. I want to personally thank all of our parents for your support this year and during our Strawberry Fundraiser. We sold 554 flats this year and exceeded our goal from last year. This was a great year of sales! Congratulations to Travis Azbill, Raegan Burke, and Hawkins Forehand. Travis Azbill won the 1st place prize of $100, Raegan Burke won the 2nd place prize of $50, and Hawkins Forehand won the 3rd place prize of $25. The classes that sold the most flats were Crownover, Talley, Parton, Wilson, Norton, O'Keefe, and Craven. These classess won the 1 hour playtime in the 55 ft. inflatable.
This month I would like to recognize our GA Young Authors Writing Competition school level winners. CONGRATULATIONS to Anniston Parton, Willow Nichols, Hunter Gay, and Kerrigan Parton. These students won our school level writing competition and moved on to the county level competition. I am so very proud of these students!
Last month I mentioned that we would have our APEX Fun Run Fundraiser. This fundraiser officially started on Wednesday, February 28th. Students had a grade level assembly on February 27th and received all the important information they needed to bring home to their parents. We need all of our students to collect pledges during the fundraiser for the Fun Run that will be held on Friday, March 8th. This is going to be an exciting 2 weeks for our students. The APEX team will be here daily to present character lessons to our students and encourage them to be their best. Our students love the APEX team and all of the fun activities and excitement they bring to the school. Our goal is to raise $35,000 to purchase interventions, instructional supplies, and technology.

CELEBRATING HEROES
On February 22nd I had the opportunity to speak at our Principal Meeting about our unexpected evacuation and provide the principals with important information from our experience. I also had the opportunity to recognize some of our staff members for the outstanding job that they did during this event with Mr. Nix. Although I was unable to take the entire staff with me, I am SO PROUD of each and every member of our team! They are the real heroes working with our students everyday! THANK YOU for your willingness to ALWAYS go above and beyond to keep our students safe! YOU. ARE. THE. BEST!
CCPS COMMUNITY LIGHTHOUSE ACADEMY
On Thursday, February 29th CCPS had their Community Lighthouse meeting at Boynton. These meetings provide opportunities for the Catoosa County residents to engage with the district and to learn about the complex inner workings of district operations and to cultivate a more knowledgeable and engaged community. It was an honor to host this important meeting at our school. Thank you to everyone that attended.

THE COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Make Kindness the Norm
Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. However, kindness can mean different things to different people. The meaning is in how you choose to show it. Talk to your child and help them to understand what it looks like to be kind.
How can you show kindness?
Give someone a Compliment
Hold the door open for someone
Smile at the new student in the class
Help an injured or lost animal
Stick up for someone who is being bullied
Say please and thank you
Encourage someone
Invite someone to play
Treat others the way you want to be treated

3rd 9 Week Focus: I will Always be RESPECTFUL.
PBIS BIG EVENT - Water Day - May 20, 2024
To participate, students must meet the following criteria from Feb. 2 - May 20, 2024
● 150 PBIS points
● No more than 1 thinking map
● No office or bus referrals
PBIS DATA - In January, we had nine behavior incidents involving aggression (classroom, gym and playground); disruption of instruction in the classroom; and unsafe behaviors in the cafeteria. All of these behaviors stem from a form of disrespect - disrespecting others, disrespecting learning and disrespecting their school building.
Positive Behavior TIP: Teaching Good Manners
Having good manners is part of being respectful. The Pragmatic Parent lists the following as Good Manners for Kids to Have:
● Saying “thank you” after something is received, given or exchanged.
● Using the word “please” when you’re asking for help or would like to receive something you want or need.
● Looking people in the eye when you greet them or if they’re talking to you. (Once toddlers master please and thank you, then begin working on eye-contact.)
● Greeting others with “hello” or “goodbye” as well as responding to someone when they greet you.
● Saying “I’m sorry” or “excuse me.”
● Holding the door open for others.
● Not speaking over others, but waiting until it’s their turn to talk.
Thank you in advance for encouraging your child to strive for positive and respectful behavior during their day at school.

MEDIA NEWS
We had such a fun February! We successfully wrapped up our math centers, and the 3rd to 5th graders are continuing to work on cursive lessons which will continue for the rest of the remainder of the school year. Meanwhile, our Kindergarten to 2nd graders will embark on an exciting journey exploring the concepts of beginning, middle, and end within stories, alongside delving into some intriguing social studies standards. As for our 3rd to 5th graders, they're gearing up for Milestones by discussing effective testing strategies and engaging in comprehensive Milestones online test prep sessions.
MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC
It is time for our students to show off all they have been working on in music class. Please join us March 12th at 6:00 pm @ HHS for our 9th Annual Spring Showcase! It is a wonderful night of showing off our students. Every grade level will perform, as well as our Chorus! Instrument reservation forms will go home this week. These are very important. We need to have a good count of who will be performing so that we have enough equipment for all! If your child has a grade level shirt please have them wear that! It is going to be a great night!
SCIENCE-TECHNOLOGY-ENGINEERING-MATH
Thank you to everyone who attended STEM Night. It was a fantastic evening of fun science activities and learning. I am looking forward to warmer weather in March to begin exploring some outdoor science activities with students . Younger grades will begin a technology unit to familiarize them with their devices. Gimkit has become a favorite activity for many students this year, and I have enjoyed watching students learn through using this resource.
