Florence Twp. School District -- 2020-2021 -- #9
Another great week..
Thank you for another successful week! We greatly appreciate your support, patience, and diligence as we continue in the new norm. Staff and students are doing great, and we continue to adjust as needed. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact a building administrator. We are happy to answer any questions you have!
As numbers of positive Covid-19 positive cases increase throughout the state, we all must do our part to stop the spread! Please remember to wear a mask, maintain social distance, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you are sick! Please take care of yourself and each other as we strive to do all we can to move forward this school year.

Today, Friday October 9th, is World Mental Health Day and it comes at a time when our daily lives have changed considerably as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The past months have brought many challenges to all ages. We encourage you to take a few minutes today and this weekend to address the stress levels and anxiety in you and your families as we’re all living in an unprecented time. Take this long weekend to relax and spend some down time just being together. Below are some ideas to check out and as always feel free to reach out to us or visit our FTSD website at https://www.florence.k12.nj.us/parent-information/mental-health which includes a comprehensive list of online resources under “mental health wellness.” It’s ok to not be ok! PSAT's -- October 14th
In an effort to help our young people achieve their dreams, we are planning to administer the PSAT to our 11th grade Blue and Gold students on Wednesday, October 14th. All of our Blue students have been scheduled to test with their Blue cohort in classrooms that comply with social distancing requirements. The same is true for all of our Gold students.
At the present time, 11th grade students who are in our 100% Remote group will have an opportunity to take the PSAT at our High School on Tuesday, January 26th. The College Board has added this date to the 20-21 SY because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This second date allows high schools to spread students out over two administrations to preserve the health and safety of students, staff, and school communities. Given the pandemic, we will keep you updated on any changes that may come about from the College Board between now and then.
Last year, the State cancelled the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (formerly known as PARCC). However, it is still requiring that 12th grade students demonstrate standardized testing proficiency to the State in order to receive a diploma from a public high school. So, this year, a number of our 12th grade students are also taking the PSAT to show their proficiency to the State. Just as is the case with our 11th grade students, we will be maintaining cohorts and social distancing requirements for
these students.
As a result of all of this, we will be operating a different “B” Day schedule on Wednesday, October 14th. Our 11th grade Blue and Gold students, as well as a number of our 12th grade students, will be coming to school from 7:25 a.m. – 11:55 p.m. to test. All of our other students in grades 9 – 12 will complete virtual “B” Day assignments at home. Afterwards, we will have a Catch Up & Connect period from 12:50 p.m. – 1:50 p.m., so that our students will have an opportunity to connect with our teachers and vice versa.
For more information please contact John Cogan, FTMHS Principal at jcogan@florence.k12.nj.us.
Congratulations to 2020-21 NHS Students...
