Word Detectives
Ms. Webb's first grade class at Charles Olbon School recently earned their Word Detective badges. The class successfully completed all of the different missions assigned to them throughout their Reading Workshop unit. Now that they have their badges, they are officially Word Detectives and will continue applying these skills to anything they read!
Poster Contest Winner
Congratulations to Beatrice Gilmore School fourth grade student Ella Yodice! She was one of the 12 selected winners of the 28th Annual My County Poster Calendar Contest, which is sponsored by Passaic County Clerk Danielle Ireland-Imhof. The County received approximately 700 submissions by fourth grade students from across the municipalities in Passaic County. Ella’s artwork is showcased on the 2024 Passaic County Calendar Poster for the month of August. Congratulations also to Art Teacher Mrs. Toole, who continues her streak of having one of her student’s artwork selected among the winners each year for several years!
Pet Shelter
Mrs. Guariglia's PreK-3 class at the Early Childhood Center worked on creating a "Save a Pet Shelter" during their Pet Study The students filled it with pets, food, and medical equipment to take care of the pets. In the art center, they painted and created a sign for the shelter.
Folding the Flag
School Resource Officer John at Memorial Middle School has been instructing students on the proper way to fold the American Flag.
Google Guidance
Members of the Woodland Park Education Association hosted an educational event for parents, "How to Use RealTime and Google Classroom to Support Your Child," last week. Volunteers from the WPEA guided parents on how to get onto RealTime and Google Classroom. The goal of the event was to ensure that parents could harness the full potential of these tools to engage actively in their child's academic journey.
The next WPEA educational event will be on Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Middle School: "The Impact of Social Media on Children, Teens, and Beyond." These events are open to all district parents. Food will be provided. Register to attend at wpea.fast@gmail.com.
PVHS Reps Visit With Eighth Grade Students
Guidance department members and officials from Passaic Valley High School met with our eighth grade students at Memorial Middle School to talk about the school and the registration process. Parents should send their registration folders back to Memorial Guidance Counselor Mrs. Williams by Feb. 16. Regardless of whether or not your child will attend Passaic Valley or another high school, this scheduling information must be completed.
The dates for the placement tests for the eighth grade are Feb. 7, 8, and 9. PV counselors will have their scheduling conferences with the students on March 19, 20, and 21. If parents would like to attend these 10-minute meetings, or if they have any questions, they can reach out to Mrs. Williams at kwilliams@wpschools.org or call 973-317-7786.
