Message from Dr. Ramirez
Hello CRHS Learning Community,
Happy New Year!
I hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable winter break. We sure did!
I am excited about this new year mostly because we will be working through the vaccination process and this will take us a step closer to a new normal. CRHS is a county vaccination site. We are administering vaccinations in the student parking lot. We expect this to continue for the months to come. While I don't have a crystal ball, I hope the start of the 21-22 school year will be normal-ish. For now, we are excited to make the best of the rest of the school year.
We want to make the second semester a great one for our students and we are looking for some parent helpers! We have a series of student activities, which we need parents to either run (as committee chairs) or support. While many of the activities are geared for seniors, we can adapt some or add others for all grade levels. Check out this document and let me know if you are interested in participating. The Senior Parent Committee will be holding a meeting soon to discus next steps.
This Friday, we are holding a Senior Drive-Thru Lunch. Students can pre-order at this link. If you are interested in donating food for this event, click this form.
We start in-person finals next week. Please make sure to see the calendar. Note the change in the start time: 11:00 am, and we end at 4:00 pm. Students will be allowed to leave campus once they have finished their finals. All EOC and CTE finals will be held in-person at CRHS. Other classes may offer 100% remote finals. Teachers will notify students of the final format.
I hope you all have a great first week of 2021!
Kindest regards,
Dr. Ramirez

New Beekeeper Student Club has Formed: CRHS Now an Orange County Beekeepers Association Bee School
Are you interested in Beekeeping or becoming a backyard beekeeper. CRHS is starting new student club. CRHS teacher, Mr. Scully, is putting together a CRHS Keeper Club that is open to all students. This club will place and manage several hives on CRHS campus and teach students how to manage their own hives at home, if possible.
We have partnered up with Orange County Beekeepers Association. Students may take a class (paid by CRHS) to earn their Certified Beekeeper certification.

Student Group Looking for Donations to Fund Community Garden Project
Nine students are working on a joint project for the IB Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) aspect of their IB program. This pandemic has prevented groups from holding fundraisers to pay for student-led projects. Since they cannot hold fundraises, these students are seeking donations from the community in the amount of $400.00. If you are interested in this project, please contact lisa.volaric@orange.k12.nc.us.
Here's the goal of their CAS project:
What is Our Goal?
The goal of this CAS project is to create a community garden to help combat local food insecurity, as well as teach children about nutrition and quality food. The goal is to get started with this idea this school year, and continue the project through other IB CAS projects and/or clubs in the following years. The big picture is to have a functioning garden that grows consistent fruit and vegetables to donate to OCIM, and a consistent audience for teaching about nutrition and the importance of eating quality food, such as fruits and vegetables.
PTSO Update
Happy New Year from your PTSO!
We wanted to say a sincere thank you to our Cedar Ridge families for your overwhelming generosity this holiday season. Thanks to your thoughtfulness we were able to give each teacher and staff member a $20 gift card to a local business (or favorite retail chain). Our teachers were truly touched by the gesture.
Please consider joining us for our first PTSO meeting of 2021, to be held via Google Meet on Monday, January 4th at 6:30 PM.

Athletics Updates: Message from CRHS Boosters
Good Evening Red Wolf Families!
We hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe. We are writing to you as a previous member of the Booster Club to ask you to consider joining us again if you still have an athlete at Cedar Ridge. As you are aware, without spectator sports, we have lost our concession profits (our main source of income), our visibility, and our spiritwear has gone unsold. Traditionally, the Booster Club awards an annual scholarship to 2 deserving senior athletes. We will be unable to extend this tradition without the help of funds raised from memberships.
Please consider joining the Athletic Booster Club this year. We realize it may only be in spirit but we can still be impactful! Our membership forms are available on the Booster portion of the Athletics page of the Cedar Ridge website and we also now accept Venmo payments. You may scan your membership form to this email address or mail your check and form to the school. We are excited about being able to watch our student athletes through the newly installed television cameras and with that comes opportunities for advertising. We need to remain relevant in the community!
The Booster Club will be losing 3 Board members after this year which creates opportunities for the 2021-2022 term. Please email if you are interested in being part of the rebuild next year! The Board consists of 4 current positions with room for growth.
We appreciate your support and consideration. We hope that you all have safe and healthy holidays!
*Please note: Cedar Ridge is not allowing spectators at this time. Masks must be worn at all times except when running in XC. It can be pulled down when the race starts and pulled back up when approaching another runner. Neck gaiters can be worn by XC RUNNERS ONLY! Social distancing protocol must be followed at all times.
