Arizona Satewide Assessments
Grades 3 to 11
The annual administration of Arizona academic achievement assessments will begin after Spring Break. Statewide assessments provide valuable, objective information related to student learning; the results are useful in identifying strengths and growth areas of individual students and our academic program as a whole.
The statewide assessments are:
- AASA English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics: grades 3 - 8
- AzSCI Science: grades 5, 8 and 11
- ACT Aspire: grade 9
- ACT: grade 11
For more information about the assessments for your student, refer to these documents:
Grades 3 to 8 Statewide Assessments
High School Statewide Assessments
Individual student reports for AASA, AzSCI, ACT Aspire and ACT will be available in July. Individual student reports will show a student’s overall performance in each subject area, as well as performance on categories within the subject. ACT Aspire and ACT student reports will provide additional useful information as students plan for the future.
ACT Aspire results include an ACT-readiness indicator and recommendations on how to improve scores in each subject area.
The ACT results can be used for qualification for university admission, English and other course placement in college, and determining merit-based scholarship awards. Students have the opportunity to send their ACT scores free of charge to up to four colleges and universities.
Please contact your student’s teacher or school administration if you have any questions about statewide achievement tests.
13 Test Taking Tips for Parents!
Mark the test dates down on the calendar so you will be aware of testing date
- If the dates are on the calendar, the likelihood of scheduling appointments on those dates will be slim to none. It is so important for kids to take standardized tests with their class.
Don't stress your kids out
- Your nervousness could really add to any stress that your child might already be feeling. If they aren’t worried, you could make them worried.
Get good sleep before a test
- Getting good sleep every night is a good strategy. Before a test it is even more important. They will be able to focus and concentrate better when they are well rested
Eat a good breakfast before a test
- Avoiding sugary or heavy foods is important. Having whole grains, fruits, and scrambled eggs will give kids the fuel they will need during the test.
Try to make the time before school stress free
- Trying to have everything ready to go to in your kid’s backpack before the rush out the door will cut down on everyone’s frustration. Lunches can be made the night before. Clothes can be laid out early too.
Make sure your child has taken all their medications
- You will want to make sure that the medications that help them with medical issues are doing their job. Not having them could lead to health issues coming up during the test
Be at school on time
- Being in class to go through the beginning of the school routine will help your kids stay calm.
Wish your child good luck on the morning of the test
- Taking the time to let them know you believe in them this will ease over any concerns will help your kids feel better about testing.
Remind your child to do their best
- Sometimes this simple reminder helps kids really try on tests.
Practice taking deep breaths to relax
- If your children tend to get stressed out about tests, show them how to take deep relaxing breaths. It can really calm kids down.
Remind your child to listen and read all directions carefully
- Different tests can have very different directions. It is so important to listen and read over directions.
Remind them to use your time wisely. If they get to something they don't know, they can make an educated guess and move on
- If they get to something they don’t know, they can make an educated guess and move on. Teachers have had students get bogged down at the beginning of a test. They get very frustrated when others finish much earlier. They get worried about finishing the test. This is one of those testing taking strategies you don’t want to skip.
Remind them to not worry about when others around them are finishing. They are to just to their best!
- This is one of those test taking tips that is much like the strategy above. It deserves its own place on this list though. Kids need to know that everyone works at their own pace.

Friendly Reminders
Helping Hand
When your child is sick, it’s important to know when they should stay home from school. If they have a contagious disease, keep them home. This will help them get better faster and keep their teachers and classmates from getting sick.
Talk to your child’s doctor or health care provider if you are unsure if they should stay home from school. As a general rule, your child should not go to school if they have:
- A fever over 100.4° Fahrenheit (F) or 38° Celsius (C) – Your child can return to school after they’ve been fever-free for 24 hours without antipyretics. Antipyretics are medicines that treat or prevent fever.
- Signs they are weak and tired. This is common with the flu.
- Diarrhea – Having loose poop (stool) more often that isn’t caused by a change in diet.
- Throwing up (vomiting) – More than 2 times in a 24-hour period.
- Coughing that disrupts normal activity.
- Wheezing or get short of breath.
- Pain from earache, headache, sore throat, or recent injury.
- Yellow or green drainage from the eye(s).
- A new rash – Not all rashes mean your child must stay home from school. Check with their doctor or health care provider.

Personal Items at School
Toys & Sports Equipment at School
We have noticed a sudden increase in toys and stuffed animals coming to school. Also, we are seeing Pokemon cards appearing both in the classroom and outside at recess.
These items usually become the source of conflict and/or upset because they get damaged, lost or "borrowed" by others.
