Mr. Clayton's Friday Message
April 12th, 2024
Quite a busy start to our final push for the 23-24 school year! It was great to see the students back in the building and they have done a great job picking up right where they left off. It's been encouraging and impressive to see.
-HUGE congratulations to our Vanderlyn Science Olympiad team! They qualified for state and will be competing at Kennesaw State University on May 4th. Well done Vikings!
-Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers have our students ready for Georgia Milestones. Mr. Nichols has made sure that staff and students are set up for successful testing sessions and I am excited to see the students perform. Please be sure that students are getting a restful night of sleep and starting their day with a hearty breakfast (applies every day, but it goes a long way during Milestones testing). And please be sure that students are here each day by 7:40. Being on time will be very important in setting up for a successful testing day.
-While our 3-5 teachers have done a great job getting students ready this school year, it's important to remember the work done by teachers from years past. Our PreK, K, 1st and 2nd grade teachers have a lot invested in the 3rd-5th students and their work with them laid the foundation for the success we are planning to see.
-A FREE soccer camp is being offered for our 4th and 5th grade students at Dunwoody High School on Saturday, May 4th from 9:00AM-10:30AM. Click on this link to register: Registration Link, Once you've done that, you'll be prompted to select your preferred language. After choosing a language, you can proceed to complete the waiver. No further actions are necessary.
-Our PTO has been working hard on our upcoming Kindergarten Roundup. If you know of any parents that have students entering kindergarten and they want to learn more about Vanderlyn, please be sure to have them sign up for the Roundup on April 26th.
-Reminder that our 1st graders will have their Animal Wax Museum from 8:00-8:30 in the cafeteria on Friday, April 26th.
Weekend looks like perfect Atlanta Spring weather! Enjoy!
