HOOT NEWS
BOND UPDATE:
This week I was part of the interview process for the Doss Design / Build team. It was so great to be a part of that process and listen to all of the great ideas from the applicants. The firms selected will be announced after the Board meeting on the 22nd.
On the 22nd the Bridging Design Team will present to the Doss Faculty at 3:15 in the library. They will share some images and information with you about the current design (subject to change as we get the new design firm and as we continue to give feedback on the plan).
MOY ISIP TESTING:
The MOY ISIP testing will need to take place in January. The window opens on January 3rd and closes on January 31st. It is a requirement through the district (and now the state) that everyone participates, as this data will be used as a pre-screening for dyslexia. This means the MTSS team in AISD will be looking through this MOY data. Please let Leah know if you need support with testing.
ELL CHECKLISTS
MOY ELL checklists are open and will need to be entered online in LPAS in the cloud. To access:
1.Got to my.austinisd.org and log in.
2. Search for LPAS and click on the icon.
3. Click on the Checklist tab.
4. Click the boxes for the sheltered instruction strategies you regularly use for that student.
5. Please include some qualitative feedback in the comments box.
Please complete this online form for all of your ELL students no later than January 31st.
CAP 10K - GO TEAM DOSS!
Now that many of you have signed up for the Cap10K, we would like to start promoting the event to students and families. If we get at least 25 team members, there will be a Doss Owl tent at the end of the race - how fun!
Classroom teachers: Could you please spread the word to your class? To keep it easy, I've written a short blurb about the event that you are welcome to copy/paste onto LivingTree, email, or any other communication outlets that you use in your classroom (you can write your own if you don't want to use what I wrote). If you have students who are interested in participating but need financial assistance, we are working on getting something set up so that all Doss Owls can attend. Please let me know if you need any help. Thank you for your help in promoting this opportunity!
Hello Parents,
Join Doss Elementary at the Cap10K on Sunday, April 8, 2018.
Register online at https://eventdog.com/a/eventpage.php?eID=623. Doss students may register as a School Team Member. When given the opportunity to select a team, select the “Doss Owls” option. Family members and friends must register as individuals.
Not a runner? Don’t worry! Many people choose to walk the Cap10K.
The class with the highest percentage of participation will be recognized at a Friday assembly in the weeks following the Cap10K.
Meet fellow Doss Owls at the team tent area after the race to celebrate your success!
To view general race information, visit http://www.cap10k.com/.

CAMP GLADIATOR AT DOSS
Camp Gladiator wants to thank you by helping kick-start your 2018 health and fitness goals. CG has partnered with Austin ISD to provide you with a free month of personal training! No contract. No commitment. We have multiple locations throughout Austin and nationwide. We are for all fitness levels and you go at your own pace in every 60 minute workout.
We know that every one of you pour into others tremendously. When you pour so much into others, it is easy to not pour into yourself. However, you need to fill your cup as well. Studies have shown that exercising 30-60 minutes not only relieves your stress, but it also increases productivity!
Are you ready to make a change in 2018?
A free month is our way of saying thank you for all that you do. We hope to see you out at camp so that we can all come together to strengthen our impact!
Please watch the video for an insight of what we do:

SUBSTITUTES
While we work to find someone to fill this position. please be patient with our office staff and help them by being responsible and self-sufficient when it comes to subs and payroll. Regarding subs - we will be short handed until I can get someone hired. Please be sure to let me know if you will be out and secure your own subs. Friendly reminder - if you are going to be out, please put in Aesop AND Bolt. Also, note in the comment section your reason for taking off. This will help us categorize your absence and determine who is paying for your sub. Need a BOLT and/or AESOP tutorial? Here's are some links:

OWL CARE LIST:
You will be receiving an email that will give you the opportunity to list those students who need a little (or a lot of) extra care and watchful eyes. These students are those who:
- Seek out an unusual amount of attention from peers and/or from the adults on campus.
- Are emotional and have a difficult time regulating their emotions or expressing their emotions.
- Have disruptive behaviors.
- Have a difficult time with peer relationships.
- You know first-hand or suspect that there may be a situation at home that is causing him/her undo stress or emotional anxiety.
NURSE NOTES
Cedar fever is here! If you are allergic to cedar, please start on a daily medicine like Zyrtec or Allegra! Make sure to shower every night to remove allergen from skin before going to bed. Eyes red and puffy? Use a small amount of baby soap and rinse eyes to remove allergen from eyes. This works wonders!
As everyone knows flu is running rampant in Texas and Doss is being hit hard too! If students have a fever of 99.9 or above, they need to stay home from school! They can return to school when they have been fever free without the help of fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours.
Wash hands, cover your coughs and stay healthy my Doss family!
- Nurse Tori
