PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING:
This is why I love my job! 💓
On Friday, two kindergarten students from Ms. Walsh's class came to the main office and asked the secretary if they could see me. They were both smiling as they confidently walked over to my desk. They asked, "Can we read our book to you?" Of course, I said yes, but I needed to learn more about these books. Alina and Alexander shared that they had written the books in class and made the illustrations themselves. Alexander read his story, The Snowy Day, and Alina read her story, Ella and Alex. I was so proud of them and honored that they wanted to read their story to me. They were authors, and they knew it. I loved their stories, but I loved their confidence even more. Gholdy Muhammad, in Cultivating Genius, speaks about the power and genius already within children. Educators must teach in ways that raise, grow, and develop children's existing genius. Ms. Walsh's class reflects this belief and is one example. Cultivating genius happens in Galway classrooms daily and as the principal, I get to see your beautiful children blossom. Yes, this is why I love my job!
Tell MCPS: 2024 Districtwide Family Survey
Please take a few minutes and tell Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) your opinions by completing the 2024 Districtwide Family Survey. The survey is about your experiences with your child’s school and education. Your answers will help schools to better understand families’ engagement in their children’s education and improve connections between schools and families.
Why is it important to complete the survey?
By completing the survey, you will help to provide information that will assist the district in making an informed decision that reflects the opinions of the MCPS community. Your family was randomly selected to participate in the survey from all of the families in your child’s school.
How long will it take to complete the survey?
The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
Are my answers confidential?
Your answers are confidential and are reported together with the answers from other families. Families and students are not identified.

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
Women's History month is a celebration of women's contributions to culture, history, and society. It has been celebrated since 1987. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first proclamation about Women's History Week.
International Women's Day is a global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women, took place for the first time on March 8, 1911.
The 2024 theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” This theme recognizes women who understand the need to eliminate bias and discrimination from individuals' lives and institutions.
“Know what sparks the light in you so that you, in your own way, can illuminate the world.” — Oprah Winfrey
“Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.” — Betty White
