Spring Cleaning = Spring Finding!
THIS WEEK IN THE LIBRARY!: This week we celebrated National Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) Day! Students could bring their own books from home or their classroom library, check out a new book from the library or read some engaging short read books that I provided. Not every kid loves to read, but I love to show them that reading for fun is so different than having to read for school–reading for pleasure opens up the world and takes us on fascinating adventures, if you can just find the right book! And, that is what I love to help them do! Happy D.E.A.R. Day on Friday!
SPRING “FINDING”: I don’t know about you, but I have started the Spring Cleaning around my house and it always amazes me what I find in all the wrong places–same with the libraries at school. I am currently looking for lost books this week on our shelves as I work my way through all the overdue/lost books list. It happens–kids change their minds and put books back without returning them in the system and sometimes the system has a hiccup during book returns. I hope I find some, but I am also hoping you can help me find some more around your house. Remember–they love to hide on bookshelves! Thanks for your help!
OVERDUE/LOST NOTICES WITH PROGRESS REPORTS: Please watch for overdue/lost notices to come home with your progress reports. On 4/12 all books that were due in December and January will be marked lost in the system. I hate for people to have to pay for books, but if the book is truly lost; please settle your fine as quickly as possible so we can replace the book on our shelves. Also, if paying for a lost or damaged book is not something your family can afford, PLEASE let me know so I can support you in getting those fines taken care of for you and not have your child’s check out privileges interrupted! I am here to help!
Happy National School Library Month ~ Mrs. Nudo
Attendance Reminders & After School Change of Plans
Also, if you have to change your students' after-school plans, please try to do this one hour before students are released so that we have enough time to communicate with teachers and staff.

Personal Electronic Device Policy
(Cell phones, Smart watches, Earbuds)
As an upper elementary school, O.P.E. will align with the Middle School policy concerning electronic devices. A personal electronic device is defined by the district as any “device capable of electronically communicating, sending, receiving, storing, recording, reproducing and/or displaying information and data.” The new policy will ask that students have their devices “off and away” while on campus. A private warning will be given if a student uses the device while at school. A second infraction will lead to the device being turned into the office for pick-up at the end of the day. Parents will be asked to pick up the device after a third infraction. The school is asking for parent support with this policy as we focus on building a positive learning environment. Here is the testing schedule for the rest of May.
