Growing kind hearts & minds while inspiring personal success
A Note from the Principal
Happy Michigan State/Michigan Weekend! Go Green!
Families, we had over 86% of you attend Parent Teacher Conferences and I understand there are more families scheduled with teachers this upcoming week to make those missed appointments up. We are hoping for 100% attendance during this fall conference so that every child has successes and goals for the teacher and family to work on together. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need to still schedule a time to hear great things!
We have lots to celebrate at Stoney Creek in this first quarter of the year. Our Leader In Me teams are up and running and by November our 2nd graders will be participating in a student led Lighthouse team. They will be in charge of many things around our school to help us meet our goals. I am so excited that some of my goals for the next 3 years have been achieved or are right on schedule for success. Students are walking our hallways with pride. We are proud of our community feel around the school and our PTO has helped us tremendously with being our partners in the reading success to come. Our data looks like we will spend extra time on the area of reading and phonics, so please take time to use the parent guides that each teacher gave out at conferences. It will show a huge difference in our foundational skills in January when we re-test all students.
Watch DOGS is going well and our dads are reporting great fun each day! Some have even signed up again to return. Please use the sign up here for ease of scheduling. We have received a donation from Haviland, PTO, and other families so all the shirts have been paid for this school year! WOW! We will now put any other donations towards the purchase of future shirts, Donuts with Dads in the spring, and our Kick off event next year! THANK YOU so very much for the support.
We look forward to having families join us for the Halloween Parade on the 31st in the morning. Because the teachers will attempt to have a routine day after the party, we ask that your child have other clothes to change into after the parade and snacks be kept as healthy and fun as possible!
Enjoy your fall weekend!

Student Drop Off
Please remember the following when dropping kids off for school in the morning:
1. Go with the flow of traffic in the line. Pulling out of line and trying to get closer to the front puts others at risk. Please remember that some of our kiddos are still in car seats and it may take a little bit longer to get them out of the car.
2. If you have to walk your student in, please park in a parking spot and walk with your student into the building.
Thank you for your patience and teamwork as we get 475 kiddos safely into the building each day.

Halloween Parties
Halloween parties are scheduled for Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 9-10:45 a.m. at Stoney Creek. Please remember to dress in costumes that are non-violent, safe, and appropriate. Weapons such as guns, swords, knives, etc. will not be allowed at school.
We would like to welcome all that would like to attend the fun events of the Halloween morning. Doors will open at 8:15 like normal. All families/friends will be asked to enter the school through the gym doors on the side of the building.
Once you arrive in the gym you will be able to check in by
1. Going to the table for those that have already told their student's teacher they will be attending the parade and party and have filled out the Volunteer Application and have been approved.
OR
2. Going to the table for those that have NOT told their child's teacher they will be attending and/or have NOT filled out the Volunteer Application.
Please fill out the VOLUNTEER APPLICATION and bring into the school office if you have not already.
The party will begin with a parade in the gym and the party will move into classrooms. The only people that will be permitted into the classrooms are those that have turned in their Volunteer Application and have been approved from that background check.
Because the fun begins shortly after school starts, we are asking all students to arrive wearing their Halloween Costumes that day and bring a change of clothes for the afternoon.
We are excited to welcome you to this event!
Attendance
Students that arrive after 8:35 are considered tardy. Please remember that when they are late the parent needs to come into the building to sign the student(s) in.
Thank you for your help.

Music Notes
Our students are rocking in music class this year! Ask your musicians at Stoney Creek about high and low pitches, loud and quiet sounds, and fast and slow tempos. We can really read a lot of rhythms too! If you’d like to practice our songs and concepts at home, our music curriculum just got put online at https://musicplayonline.com/ username is: student and password is: music18
Thanks for encouraging the love of music!!
