Ever Thought About a Career in Social Justice?
What if your career could focus around values and principles that have meaning to you? What if you could work in an environment that was mutually beneficial for the company and the community? A recent study indicated that “9 out of 10 employees are willing to trade a percentage of their lifetime earnings for greater meaning at work.” If you are one of the 90% of employees seeking more meaningful work, you may want to consider a career in social justice.
Social justice offers many different career paths for those interested in making a difference in the world. You can find opportunities in nonprofits, government, the arts, socially responsible corporations and start-ups, law, the environment, education, and health care, to name a few.
Here’s some ideas to get started:
1. Attend one of Career Design’s Self-Assessment coaching labs to help you reflect on your most important values and identify the causes about which you are most passionate.
2. Do informational interviews to learn about employers who share your core values and build your network.
3. Visit our nuCAUSE web page for ideas on how to find organizations and opportunities that align with your values, interests and goals.
4. Volunteer/Intern-over 80% of non-profits hire from their volunteer and intern pool!
5. Attend one of our virtual events listed below to inspire new ideas.
