Wing Chun 詠春
"Spring Chant"
Foundations
Wing Chun is a concept-based Chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while specializing in real world, close-range combat. The Wing Chun stance is modeled after a piece of bamboo. Firm but flexible, rooted but yielding. This structure is used to deflect or redirect external forces. Balance is the most important concept in Wing Chun.
Origins
The practice of Wing Chun date back to the period of Red Boat Opera. As told by Wing Chun master Yip Man, the dirt person to practice the style was a woman named Yim Wing-Chun. She refused a marriage offer by the local warlord, and told him she'd reconsider his offer if he can beat her in a fight. Yim then sought the help of a Buddhist nun, who developed this new martial art while watching a fight between a snake and crane.
