Some learning from this week
This week, I've learned a lot about technology issues that impact students. However, the most critical thing that I've learned is that in today's digital environment, when students have appropriate questions that are normal for them to be curious about, their first response is to search the internet. In years past, students would have asked a friend or possibly a parent. Today, what they knew both from their own experience and from watching us is that when you have a question, you google it or you ask Alexa!
I'm sharing this because you need to be very aware that your student will be curious about lots of things in the coming years and the safest and most appropriate thing for them to do is ask you. However, you're going to have to be aware and sensitive to their needs in order to have that type of dialogue with them. You can no longer assume that you can wait for the right age or for the puberty videos to be shown at school. You have to begin early with conversations that may feel uncomfortable if you want to protect them from trying to find the information on their own.
Look for openings that occur naturally, but do what you can to encourage conversation as early and as often as you can.

Transportation Services Survey
Transportation Services wants to hear from our student bus riders! A student survey will be available through Classlink this week in order to gather feedback regarding their experience riding GCISD buses. If they are a bus rider, they can click on the bus icon in Classlink to complete the survey. This information will help the transportation team plan for the future and identify any trends. If your student is a bus rider, please encourage them to complete the online survey from their student device.
