Neon, Glow Lunch
Our students enjoyed their all-school Bark-Out reward during lunch on Friday. Needless to say, they had a fantastic time. Thank you, PTA, for supporting our Respectful, Responsible, and Safe beliefs and for providing the glowing accessories!
Give Kids a Smile Day
DuPage County Health Department Dental Program is joining the American Dental Association in observance of "Give Kids a Smile Day" on Friday March 1st. Free dental screenings will be done by DuPage County Health Department dentists. Children will receive a School Dental Exam form, oral health education and an oral healthcare kit. This event is by appointment only.
Crisis Phone Support
The DuPage County Crisis Line 630-627-1700 is available 24/7, 365 days per year for individuals experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or seeking connection to DCHD Crisis Services.
Callers can expect staff to provide support and guidance to manage the crisis, explore options, and provide other resources that may further assist them in resolving the crisis.
Survey Information
As a reminder, parents are invited to take the District 58 School Environment Survey here. The survey should take just a few minutes yet provides valuable information that guides our school improvement efforts. All responses are anonymous.
In addition, parents are also invited to take the Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Parent Survey. This survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes. Your identity and survey responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected to you or your child.
Student Survey Information:
Additionally, grade 4-8 students will be asked to participate in a 5Essentials student survey sometime between Feb. 23 and March 22. If you do not wish to have your grade 4-8 student(s) participate in the 5Essentials, please fill out this opt-out form and return it to your child’s school by Tuesday, Feb. 20.
A District 58 email was sent to all parents/guardians about the surveys and the student’s 5Essential opt-out form on Monday, Feb. 12. Learn more about the surveys here.
Kindergarten, 2024-2025
District 58 and Belle Aire are both excited to start meeting ou incoming kindergarten students. Please ask friends and neighbors with preschool-age children who are eligible for kindergarten (children who are five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2024) to contact our school at 630-719-5820 to be added to our incoming kindergarten list. Kindergarten RoundUp is scheduled at Belle Aire on March 21, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and we want to ensure that parents and guardians can visit their child’s future school and meet some of the staff, PTA representatives and the principal. Families may visit www.dg58.org/kindergarten to access pertinent information in the District 58 Kindergarten Resource Guide.
Will your child attend kindergarten in District 58 next school year? Or do you have a friend or neighbor whose child will? Here are three steps to prepare!
1. Give us a call at the school (630-719-5820) or email Amy (adamico@dg58.org) to let us know your child will be attending kindergarten next year. We will get your family added to our kindergarten contact lists.
2. Attend Kindergarten Roundup on March 21, 2024 (6:00 - 7:00 p.m.). This is an adult-only event that will help you understand what a typical kindergarten day looks like, learn about health requirements, meet the teachers and more.
3. Visit our Kindergarten Resource webpage for information on Kindergarten Roundup schedules, school boundary maps, kindergarten registration, immunization requirements, kindergarten curriculum and much more!
Approved School Calendars (2024-2025 AND 2025-2026)
The Board approved two years of school calendars in preparation for construction and also to meet the planning needs of parents. The calendar next year will be condensed to maximize construction time in the summer, meaning that classes will end prior to Memorial Day in 2025 and in the following calendar year start after Labor Day 2025.
Highlights of the 2024-25 calendar include:
First Day of School: Friday, Aug. 16, 2024 (this aligns with District 99’s first day)
Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 27-29, 2024
Winter Break: Dec. 23, 2024-Jan. 3, 2025
Spring Break: April 1-4, 2025
Last Day of School: Friday, May 23, 2025 (if no emergency days are used)
Winter Weather; Outdoor Recess (repeat item)
As the weather changes, I'd like to send a couple recess reminders your way.
-As in past years, we will continue to have outdoor recess during the winter months so long as the weather permits AND so long as the real feel temperature is zero degrees or above. It will be important that students come to school dressed for the weather and that they have the appropriate outdoor clothing to stay safe and warm.
-At the times when we have snow, students will be able to head off of the blacktop to play in it. The key to that is that they are prepared. In order to play in the snow off of the blacktop areas, the students need to be wearing snow boots and snow pants/snowsuit.
