FROM THE HEAD'S DESK
This week, my Heads’ Words are going to be in pictures!! The main theme of these pictures is ‘The hard graft’ - so you will see the boys in action in the classroom, going through the rigours of academic learning and exploration with us. I know that many of you are joining us tonight for our Sports Department fundraiser, and the weather (fingers crossed) looks like it may be kind to us.
Our assemblies this week have been on Jeans for Genes day, the Paralympics, and the importance of being polite. Indeed there are several boys in the school who have been particularly well mannered, holding doors open for others, standing to the side when staff or visitors walk around the school, and ensuring that our Dinner Ladies are thanked every time for serving the food. Boys like Oliver Raison, William Gent, Lincoln Burns and Udhay Dhillon have been mentioned to me a number of times, and I can assure you there have been plenty more! Well done boys!
Have a lovely weekend and I hope you enjoy what appears to be the end of our summer sun!

PTA NEWS
A big Thank you everyone who came and joined us for our PTA afternoon tea on the lawn last Friday. The sun made a welcome appearance following the storms and it was lovely to meet lots of new parents to the school.
Aneeta Rogers and her helpers had a very busy afternoon selling Nearly New Uniform. Thanks to all of your generous donations of uniform we made a staggering £511 in just a couple of hours. This money all goes directly back to the boys, who we know will be extremely grateful.
If you would like a say in how this, and other funds the PTA raise, are spent, please do come and join us for our first committee meeting of the year on Wednesday 28th Sept at 9.00am in the dining room and a the PTA AGM will be taking place at 7.30pm in the Mezzanine at the Junior Boys School. You are all welcome to come, you don't have to commit to all the events. There are lots to choose from. Also, dads are always a plus in our team!!!
We hope to see you there.
All the best,
Ana Sidders
Chair PTA CCJB

FROM THE SPORTS MASTER
A return to normal Autumn temperatures has been a relief for both staff and pupils as we haven't had to battle with extreme heat and thick rugby jerseys. Year 2 & 3 have loved getting the tag belts on and practising their passing skills during Games lessons this week. In competitive fixtures the U9 continued their excellent start with two wins, a draw and two losses against Davenies on Tuesday. The U9ABD all continuing their unbeaten run. Freddie Galitzine-Scott gets a special mention for some truly fearless tackling. The U11s travelled to St George’s in Weybridge on Wednesday for some tough matches. The U11B competed in a very close game with the scores on the final whistle level at 20-20. However, the U11D team won the team of the day with an outstanding 50-20 win. A special mention goes to Matias Grundy for his first try of the season. We have another very busy week of fixtures ahead of us next week. Pupils will be bring home team sheets the day before and the team sheets will also be available on the school's website the day before each fixture.
Finally, Mr Barber has been running around frantically towards the end of this week ensuring that all is prepared for tonight's CCJB social fundraiser. We look forward to welcoming many of you here tonight!

FROM THE CHESS GRAND MASTER
And we're off...
Wow, what a start to the chess year!
40 boys have signed up to do chess on a Monday, which is the most we have ever had and the maximum we could fit into the dining room! It is my hope that the boys will develop a love for the game and continue to work on improving their thought processes, patience and planning. This is of course not something that should be restricted to one or two afternoons a week, so I have already encouraged your son to get the chess board out at home and start thinking; playing through games against friends, relatives and themselves.
Chess books are handy for chess players of all strengths but are especially useful when starting out. A book with attractive pictures showing how the pieces move and capture can not only help develop understanding of the game itself but can also be a gateway into reading in general!
Upcoming events:
As a school we will be hosting the U9 and U11 county trials on Saturday 8th October. More information and the entry form can be found (along with links to other county tournaments) by clicking on the link below:
