Sunrise Family Updates
4.12.24
Hi Sunrise Families!
I hope this message finds you well! We are still in the midst of Forward Exam testing. The kids are really taking their time and working hard; THANK YOU for all of the encouragement you are providing. Kids have told us they are going to bed earlier and one student told me, "my mom made me eggs for the test." We have great breakfasts here too, but we sincerely appreciate this support.
We are getting SO excited for STEAM night next Thursday, April 18! It will be EPIC!! Please come to Sunrise at 5:30 p.m. You will likely not want to leave due to all of the amazing activities, snacks, door prizes, etc. But we will ask everyone to leave at 7:00 p.m. Please enjoy the video below to learn more! This will also be our last day of Forward testing for most students . . . a perfect celebration!
Enjoy the rest of the updates below and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
Reminder! There is no Boys and Girls Club after school today (4/12). Thank you!

Important Band Updates - 4th and 5th Grade Parents
- 4th graders will have the opportunity to see the band in action (see flyer below) and then families are invited to a parent meeting to learn more about choosing an instrument. This is an awesome program for students!
- 5th grade band families, please remind your child to load the bus promptly. Mr. Vanderloop has been getting off the bus to make sure all students are gathered. This is causing the entire bus to be late and so we have asked that he no longer do this. 5th graders are given ample time by their teachers to gather their materials to board the bus. If a student misses the bus, they will call their family immediately. Thank you for having a plan in place if this were to happen.
PTO Updates
The PTO is planning our last fundraising event of the year for April 16th. Gnome Games Family Game Night! It will be at the Sturgeon Bay High School on April 16th from 4 - 6 p.m. There will be a bake sale and Sonny's pizza fundraiser opportunity. For this to be successful, we need your support and donations! Please use this site:www.PerfectPotluck.com to sign up for a baked good donation! To search for the sign up - the coordinator last name: Martens, password: 2024
Also, please join me in congratulating the newest PTO board members - Catherine Poon is our new PTO president, and Rachel Mauer is our next PTO vice president! Catherine joins us as a new member with her eldest starting 4K this school year. Rachel has been an active member of our PTO for years, having a 4th, 2nd, and 2 year old child in the district!
Third Graders in STEAM class, checking out a dandelion petal!
Important Message About Extra Milk at Lunch
Our Sunrise students are thirsty! Water is a good first choice for thirst and water is available right outside the cafeteria eating area. In school meals we provide one milk choice (8 ounces), at each meal. If a student would like to have a second milk container with a meal or a milk with a cold lunch, there is a $0.50 charge for each additional milk. Some students and families did not realize this. Additional milks require purchasing permissions enabled by parents as families are responsible for paying for the extra cost. If families want to adjust permissions or have questions they can email me (jspude@sturbay.k12.wi.us) or they can go into the food service section of PowerSchool and adjust settings for each student as they deem appropriate (this will need to be done each school year for each student, usually at school registration time). Thank you!
Opera for the Young performed on Thursday with many of our own Sunrise students!
Summer School Registration
This is the last week to register for Summer School before it is open for students throughout Door County. We would like our Sturgeon Bay students to have their first choice in classes, so please register here: Summer School Registration.
The Solar Eclipse was SO cool!
