LVMS Is Awesome - after 7:15!
I realize that I am extremely blessed to have such an opportunity everyday to work with amazing teachers, students and staff. And I also know that kids are incredibly excited to get to school each morning(cough, cough). With that being said, please know that we cannot guarantee supervision of students until 7:15 AM. I know that circumstances sometimes means students being dropped off earlier than that, and we do our best to make it to the Lower Gym as early as possible, but until 7:15 they may be unsupervised.
We had a great week at LVMS, and here are a few of the best things I've seen...

Teacher Luncheon - October 19th!
If you're new to LVMS, we have a long tradition of doing a monthly teacher appreciation. It's just a small way to say thank you for all the long hours & extra demands that comes with teaching/working in a small district. We serve/feed about 40 teachers and staff.
It's something they all look forward to each month so please help us keep the tradition alive by contributing once or twice throughout the year.

Last month's luncheon was a huge success so if you helped thanks so much. The teachers & staff really enjoyed everything!
November & December are traditionally baked goods that the teachers can bring home in lieu of lunch so if you are a baker please consider blessing our teachers. Be on the lookout for those links next week.

PSAT in October
The PSAT is not mandatory. If you would like your 8th grade to opt out of the test, please contact Kerri Walker with questions at kerri_walker@lagovista.txed.net
The test will start at 8:30 on Wednesday, 10/17. If your student is late, they may not be able to take the test. So please make sure they are on time to take advantage of this opportunity. If they are absent, there will not be a make up test date.

Michelle Holden - 7th and 8th Grade Math
Where are you originally from?
Houston, Texas
What led you to want to be a teacher? How long have you been in education?
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have been teaching middle school math for 10 years.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married since 2003, and have two boys, ages 3 and 6.
What are your favorite hobbies?
We love boating on lake Travis, spending time outdoors, and family time.
Why do you like teaching math?
I love being able to help a struggling student understand a math concept that has been difficult for them to grasp. Also, math has always been my favorite subject. I actually enjoy solving complicated math problems.
How many pets do you have?
I have one wiener dog named Rudy.
Do you speak any other languages?
Not fluently. My minor in college was Spanish, and I studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico for one month, but "when you don't use it, you lose it," and I only remember the basics.
Noel Hurley - Special Education Paraprofessional
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Centralia, IL. but lived my first 10 years in Houma then Harahan, Louisiana. My family moved to The Woodlands before moving to Midland where I graduated from Lee High School. I spent four years in Denton earning my bachelors degree from North Texas. I then lived in Snyder, Austin, San Marcos before moving to Lago Vista. I have lived here longer than I have lived in any other city.
What led you to want to be in education? How long have you been in education?
I enjoy learning and I like helping others. I have been in education off and on since 2008.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married to Pat for almost 23 years. We have two sons Jake and Sam. Jake attended LVISD from kindergarten until he graduated this past May. He is now at college. Sam is a junior at Lago Vista High School. We also have a dog and a cat.
What are your favorite hobbies?
Supporting my favorite Vikings! Watching television and shopping.
What are some jobs you did before working at the school?
AAU/USA Swim Coach, Probation Officer, Community Supervision and Corrections Court Officer (Travis County 6 then the 331st District Court).
What is your favorite food?
Cheese Enchiladas, Veggie Pizza, and Steak.
What is your favorite college or university?
University of Texas because they beat OU at the Red River Showdown last Saturday. It also helps that is where my husband graduated from and we have had season football tickets for as long as I can remember.
