Art@Hyer
Family Information
- Your child will come to art class one time a week for an hour.
- We will be having lots of messy fun and it might be a good idea to note what day your child has art and make sure that they aren't dressed in their most precious and favorite outfit on that day.
- We don't have space to store aprons in the art room, but please feel free to send an apron or over-sized t-shirt (a button down is okay too if you'd cut off the sleeves) for your child to store in their locker or desk.
- We will hold on to student art in a portfolio that they will make in class. These will be sent home in May.
- Artwork will be posted in an online gallery for family and friends to view (more info below). Every child will have a gallery unless you would not like your student to participate. If that is the case, please send Ms. Dawkins an email.
- The specials team has a discipline plan in place with a form that we will use if we need to communicate with you about minor behavioral issues.
- Students receive two grades in art, one based on participation and the second based on their behavior.
- Most lessons will be presented with a video demonstration and you can view the lessons online at https://www.smore.com/u/merandadawkins
Meet the Teachers
Meranda Dawkins
I am so excited to begin my 6th year at Hyer - we are going to have a great year! Your child will explore a variety of materials and techniques as we do projects that incorporate contemporary and historical artists. My goals are to teach Hyer artists to creatively solve problems and to express themselves with confidence. As a parent you can help your child grow artistically by encouraging them to always try their best, by helping them to understand that the artistic process is as important (if not more important!) than the finished product, and by logging in to their online gallery to leave positive suggestions and comments.

I have been working part time in the Hyer art room for the previous two years and I am excited to be here full time this year! I'm passionate about color and using innovative materials in my own work and I hope to share that passion with the students at Hyer.

Artsonia Online Gallery
Students' artwork is stored in a portfolio until May but art will also be displayed in our online gallery, Artsonia.com. If you had a parent account last year you do not need to sign up again. If you need to set up a parent account email Ms. Dawkins.
