Applications are now open for the 2024 Mercer County Internship Program!
High school and college students who live, or attend school, in Mercer County may apply to a wide range of full-time and part-time internship positions. Internship opportunities are available over the summer from June through Labor Day, with a limited number of spots also available over the Winter Break and Spring Break periods Students in the program will have the opportunity to serve the public by assisting the core day-to-day work of a department or division within the Mercer County government, while acquiring valuable experience for their future careers. Interested students can visit the Mercer County Student Internships website to apply, find information on the program, and read details on available positions.
Summer 2024 QUEST Professional Development Institutes for K-12 STEM teachers. QUEST (Questioning Underlies Effective Science Teaching) is designed to enhance teachers' knowledge of science and mathematics aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Science and Math. Teachers will receive an honorarium ($150) and 30 professional development hours upon the completion of a QUEST unit. Each session is co-taught by Princeton University Professors, researchers, and lead teachers. QUEST builds on teachers' knowledge of science and math content along with practices through experiments, field experiences, data analysis, and discourse. These learning experiences aim to increase teachers’ enthusiasm, knowledge, and confidence in teaching science and math. HVEF's Annual Above and Beyond Gala "Boots & Bling" Friday, May 10th, Stumpy's Hatchet House, Princeton. The Gala celebrates the HVRSD 2023-2024 Governors Award Recipients Teachers and Support Staff of the Year from each of our district’s schools. These individuals go “above and beyond” to make our community so special. There will be an auction full of amazing items. Your ticket includes hatchet throwing, appetizers, an open bar, music, and more. more information.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-25 year is open. Kindergarten Camp will be held at all 4 Elementary Schools from July 8th -11th & July 15th -18th (M-Thurs. 8:30-11:30 am). Students must be registered for Kindergarten in order to sign up for the camp.
Mercer County Community College Degree Programs: The academic programs include both transfer programs that prepare students for entry into baccalaureate programs and career programs that prepare students for immediate employment after graduation. The terms "transfer" or "career" simply describe the primary objective of the program. Many transfer graduates have been successful in gaining employment upon graduation. Many graduates of career programs have been successful in transferring to four-year colleges, with many of their MCCC credits accepted.
*NEW* Student Housing at Rider University for Mercer County Community College Students:
As a student attending MCCC you can now experience university campus life through a special residential program with Rider University which allows access to campus resources. Rider will offer you a significant housing grant toward your room and board. Meal plans are available but optional. If you decide to continue your bachelor’s degree at Rider after earning your associate degree at Mercer, Rider will continue the discounted room and board rate for two additional years.
Staff Appreciation: As you saw in Ms. Riley’s email on April 19, we have organized a staff appreciation project leading up to Teacher Appreciation Day next month. Please take a moment to complete the linked form by choosing several staff members and providing some positive adjectives to describe each of them. Your responses will remain confidential. Feel free to review our staff directory for a comprehensive list of the HVCHS staff. We will be compiling the responses to provide a unique gift for each staff member, reflecting their individual talents and skills. We appreciate your participation in this project.
HVCHS Athletic Hall of Fame: We are currently accepting nominations for the 2024 HVCHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Please consider submitting a nomination for an outstanding athlete, coach, team, or special contributor to be inducted this fall into the Hall of Fame. Contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Tripp Becker, at trippbecker@hvrsd.org with any questions.
Senior Events: We are excited to celebrate the Class of 2024 over the next several weeks! Please be sure to review the email sent by Ms. Riley on April 17 regarding important dates to remember. Tickets to the Senior Prom are currently on sale during lunches. Students should be sure to complete the electronic permission slip with a parent or guardian prior to purchasing tickets.
Sophomore Night Out: Sophomore Night Out will take place on May 4 at HVCHS. Get ready for pickleball, speedball, cupcake wars, and more! Ticket purchase includes all activities, as well as food provided by Nomad Pizza Co. and Uncle Ed's. Tickets are on sale during lunch through April 26; students must complete a permission slip prior to purchasing a ticket. Get ready for a night of fun with the Class of 2026!
First Responder Boys Lacrosse Game: Our Boys Lacrosse Team will be honoring our local first responders this weekend at the annual First Responders Game. Please come out and celebrate our police, EMTs, and firefighters at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 on Ackerson Field!
Spring Athletics: There are over 300 student-athletes participating in our spring athletic season! Please come out to support our student-athletes as they compete in tennis, softball, lacrosse, baseball, volleyball, golf, and track. The spring athletic schedule can be found here. All spectators should provide a positive and supportive presence for our student-athletes.

The week of April 29th is for Teacher and Staff Appreciation! The PTO has planned a traditional catered lunch and other special treats throughout the week to celebrate the outstanding faculty and staff at TMS. We are asking for donations from parents and guardians for gift cards from local businesses. The gift cards will be randomly given to staff as a “Thank You!” Any gift card amount is appreciated! Please send the gift cards to the Main Office with “TMS PTO” on the envelope by Friday, April 26th. In addition, please encourage your child to hand-write or type a note (not just an email), draw a picture or express their thanks to teachers and staff in another creative way. Please drop these off in the main office by Friday, April 26, 2024 as well. The messages will be delivered to the staff, including special area teachers, administration, school nurse, safety officers, paraprofessionals, custodians, and related service providers during the week of April 29th. Bring us your Shoes! - The HES PTO is excited to announce our latest fundraiser because you don't have to buy ANYTHING! With assistance from the 5th grade, we're collecting gently worn, used and new shoes to raise money to support our students and enrich their experience at HES. Collection bins will be by the HES front office during April & May, as well as at all school events (Color Run, May Day, etc.).
May Day Celebrations - May 2nd at 2:15pm: Parents are invited to our annual May Day Celebration, held outside on the HES Basketball Court. Consider bringing a blanket or a lawn chair for seating. Rain date will be Friday, May 3rd.
K & 1st Grade Game Night - Join us for our Kindergarten and First Grade Family Game Night! This will be May 10th from 6:30-8pm at HES. We are also offering pizza to order. Staff Appreciation - We will be celebrating Staff Appreciation during the week of April 29th. The Stony Brook PTO has a great week planned for our staff - and we also have two new ideas for which we need your help!
1: We are looking for $10 - $15 gift card donations to raffle off during our luncheon on May 1st.
2: There is no better way to show staff appreciation than by writing thank you notes. We would love for our staff members to receive hand-written thank you notes from older students. For younger students, try this template. Notes from parents and guardians are also great! Please don't forget our secretaries, CST, counselor, nurse, paraprofessionals and custodians! Please drop items off in the Main Office or have your child deliver their "top secret" items to the Main Office. We would love to surprise everyone on May 1st! Earth Day Celebration - Our Earth Day celebration, formerly known as May Day, will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at 11:30am in the back field of Toll Gate. Each grade level will be participating in the event. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on the back field for our presentation. In the event of rain, we will be moving our celebration into the gym, however, in an effort to safely fit into the gym, we will only be able to allow 5th grade parents to attend. More communication will be shared in the event of rain. Fingers crossed for beautiful weather so we can celebrate as a full school community!
The Toll Gate Green Team invites you to Walk, Bike or Roll to School on Wednesday, May 1st!
By walking, rolling, or biking to school, you will help reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted by automobiles. These air pollutants result in increases in ground-level ozone, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter such as particles of dust, soot, smoke, dirt and liquid droplets. Lace up your sneakers and/or strap on your helmets to get to school and help the Green Teamers create a healthier environment around Toll Gate.

Terhune Orchards: Kite Day! May 4th& 5th: This soaring spring festival is a perfect time to explore the farm! Make a kite, bring your own or purchase one on site. There will be music and old-fashioned games to enjoy. Read & Pick Program, Tues. 9:30 & 11:30: This innovative program combines a hands-on farm activity with listening to a story highlighting a fruit or farm area. Each session starts with an educational program that includes reading stories and discussing how crops are grown or learning about an area of the farm. Children then have hands-on picking time or complete a craft activity.

Family Events: Mutts: for the Love of Animals, May 11th , 1:30-3:30, The Watershed Institute
Join Earl and Mooch in their lovable comic strip Mutts, along with their creator, Patrick McDonnell and learn how his animal characters, and yours, can promote love and empathy for all animals. Along the way, meet some of the animals who reside at the Watershed Reserve. This program is intended for adults and families with kids ages 7 and up.
Join us on May 18th for the 46th Annual Pennington 5K Race/Walk and 1 mile Kids Fun Run! Each year, the 5K/1mi fun run kicks off the Pennington Day festivities as runners and walkers will follow the USTAF-approved course starting near the HVRSD Administration building and weaving through the heart of Pennington finally finishing back at the HVRSD administration building. Princeton Youth Ballet (PYB) will present The Secret Garden, based on the beloved book by Frances Hodgson Burnett at 4 p.m., May 11th & May 12th at the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center, 16 Walnut Lane, Princeton. Summer Programs
Hopewell Police "2024 Youth Police Academy", June 24-June 28. Now accepting applications.
The Youth Police Academy is designed to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education and encourages our young citizens to be partners, in building a safer community; a cornerstone for community policing. The program runs for one week each summer and it educates its participants on the various facets of criminal law, procedure, and enforcement. The academy is held at police headquarters and includes both academic and practical lessons in a variety of areas. Click HERE for more information
Hopewell Township Recreation Skateboard Camp: Camp day will include structured learning and open skateboarding time. Ages 7-15, Week 1: 7/8-7/12 and Week 2: 8/5-8/9
Bulldogs Flag Football Program Summer Camp: July 22nd-25th, 9am-12pm, Grades 1st-8th

Hopewell Valley YMCA Summer Camp: June 24-August 23: offers summer day camp programming to meet the needs of the community. Your camper will learn teamwork, embrace their artistic side, develop their sports skill sets and further engage in their love of STEM activities and much more.
Hopewell Valley Children's Theater. Registration is now open to new families for our summer camp 2024. We are excited to announce that our shows will be Alice in Wonderland, Jr. for the morning campers (grades K-5) and The Wizard of Oz, for the afternoon campers (grades 6 and on). Film Camp, The Garden Theatre, Princeton: The camp will run from Monday, July 15th, to Friday, July 19th, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Tuition is $425 for the general public and $400 for theater members. Registration is due by 5/1. The Princeton Garden Theatre is excited to introduce the Garden Theatre Film Camp, a week-long camp experience open to children entering 5th, 6th, and 7th grades this fall. While engaging in hands-on activities and screening short films, campers will explore film history and visual literacy through key cinematic elements, such as story, color, sound, and camera technique.
Watershed Academy for High School Students, Summer 2024 : Offers immersive environmental investigations on the 950-acre property. Each five-day session engages students in a world of science where they ask questions and identify problems, gain skills and knowledge, explore root causes of environmental injustice, propose solutions, learn about career opportunities and how to advocate for change. Schafer Sports Center: We offer campers a variety of activities including gymnastics, sports and playground games, both full and half day programs. We are also offering camp inclusion for children with special needs: Inclusion Sports Performance Training.
Rylor Lacrosse Summer Camp: 6/24-6/28. The mission is to provide a fun, safe and positive learning environment in which lacrosse players can improve their lacrosse skills and understanding of the game.
ESF’s premier collection of camps for 2024: multiple award-winning camps full of enrichment opportunities and action-packed fun activities for children in rising grades Preschool-10th. Camp runs June 24 – August 23, 2024. Extended Day is available. Arts Council of Princeton: Offers Spring Break and Summer camps and classes.
Girls Who Code Free Virtual Summer Programs Overview: Our free virtual summer programs are open to 9-12th graders. Students can choose to learn new coding skills in game design, web design, cybersecurity, or data science and artificial intelligence!

Princeton University’s Campus Recreation Summer Day Camp: Grades 1-8. The camper's day will be filled with a variety of sports, games, arts and crafts, and camp activities which will keep your camper active and engaged throughout the week. Each camp also provides weekly programs or trips for their specific grade level. All campers are given camp gear.
Princeton University Sports Camps: All camps and clinics are held on campus. Each camp is directed by the Princeton University varsity coaches, with assistance from college coaches and players from around the country.
