Biography
Michelangelo was the best sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. He was known mostly for his sculpting and painting skills. He was born on 6 March 1475 in Caprese, Italy. He spent most of life in Rome although he was a florentine. Michelangelo did not like school. During school, he would usually sneak off to see painters. After seeing his son did not have any interest in school, Michelangelo's father sent him to go and apprentice Domercio Ghirlandaio. There he learned the style of fresco. After apprenticing him, Ghirlandaio went to Lorenzo the Magnificient to study sculptures. When he was there, he also went and studied with Bertoldo di Giovanni. Giovanni opened Michelangelo to humanism. After couple of years, Lorenzo died. Because of political strife, he went to Bologna. Then he went back to Florence to become a sculptor. Michelangelo became a successful painter, sculptor, and architect. Some paintings he made were The Last Judgement and The Sistine Chapel. His sculptures consist of the Pieta, David, and the Cupid. Michelangelo created a famous piece called the tomb of Julius II. These pieces show us that Michelangelo was an accomplished rennaissane man because of his area of expertise in the arts. Michelangelo became a famous artist he needs money and he got many people to give him money to create the piece. These people were known as patrons. Michelangelo's patrons were The Medici Family, Cardinal Riario of San Giorgio, and Jean Bilheres de Lagraulars who was a representative of the French King Charles VIII. Two "isms" that are closely linked to Michelangelo are humanism and idividualism. Humanism because Michelangelo worked closely with humanists and some of his work was not focused on god. Another "ism" was individiualism because Michelangelo took pride in his work and individualism is the celebration of the individual. One cane easily infer that Michelangelo was an accomplished man as well as a rennaisance man.
