Information
Demeter is thought to be the founder of the Eleusinian Mysteries. Eleusinian Mysteries were initiations held every year for the cult of Demeter and Dionysus based at Eleusis in ancient Greece. She came to Eleusis during the reign of King Erechtheus. Metaneira comforted Demeter in Persephone’s absence. Demeter one time nursed one of Metaneira’s children. She doted on the child and anointed them with ambrosia on a daily basis. Demeter’s attachment to the child alarmed Metaneira, and the two ultimately went their separate ways. She had ambassador men she named Triptolmus, and she taught them and Celeus her sacred rites.
