Tech Tool of the Week
Animoto
Have you noticed this generation of students rely on visual media to communicate with their peers? Do you want to bring that engagement into your classroom? Why not try incorporating video into your lessons & projects? Check out Animoto's education account, where students can quickly film videos on their mobile devices and then enhance it with music and text. If you’re interested in Animoto’s education account, here’s how you get one...
Animoto - “Create Great Videos Easily”
Go to https://animoto.com/
Click “Sign up”
Enter your email, name, and create a password. Click “education”
Now go to https://animoto.com/education/classroom
Where it says “Enhance your digital classroom with Animoto”, click “apply”
Type in all the necessary information (name, school, etc.). Don’t worry if you don’t have a website or blog. Hit submit.
Next you will see: Good news! Your Animoto for Education application has been approved.
In your email, you will be given a promotional code. Sometimes it takes a little while to get there...don’t worry, it’s coming!
Once you have it, go back to Animoto, click on your name (on the top right), and click on “Account.”
Enter your promotional code!
What does this get you?? 6 months of Animoto Plus for you and 49 of your closest friends!! (or students…)

Tech Refresh
Google Classroom adds new features!
Ever wish you could differentiate within Google Classroom? Now you can! When you go to post an announcement, assignment, or question, you now have the option to select which students receive that post. Just click on the downward arrow next to “All Students”, which you will see next to the class name while you're creating your post. Check off the names of the students who you want to receive that particular post. That’s it! You’re all set!
Note that you’ll only be able to do this one Classroom at a time, but don’t forget about the “Reuse Post” option if you’d like to use the same post in another class.
Check out this and other new Google Classroom features on the Google blog

Try Breakout Edu!
I’m putting this one here because it is definitely something that you need to experience!
BreakOut Edu is a gamified, immersive learning experience where participants collaborate and use critical thinking skills to solve puzzles and problems, and ultimately break open the Breakout EDU box. Think “Escape Room” but for your class. Games can be adapted to any content area and level. You can search and access free games on the Breakout EDU site or you can create your own. Check out the sketchnote below created by Sylvia Duckworth (@sylviaduckworth) to see why you and your students should play BreakOut Edu.
Thanks to the generosity of our HSS PTSA, 5 Breakout Edu kits were purchased for our school. Contact me today about exploring the kits and reserving time for your class to experience Breakout Edu.
But wait, there's more... check out these digital Breakout Edu games.
