Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
We hope this week's newsletter still finds your family doing well. We have been working hard this week to organize and plan engaging and fun learning plans for your child.
This newsletter has two very important communication pieces to it.
1)Weekly Learning Plans Bk-5th Grade
2) School Material Pickup Plan
Please take the time to review the information below that includes details about these two items.
We are here for you so please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns at amccaw@vicksburgschools.org

LEARNING MATERIAL PICK UP
Our BIG ROCK is to make sure you have the learning materials for your child's learning plans as we begin to put more focus on content learning for each grade level.
Next Wednesday-Friday between 1-5 pm we are asking that families come to pick up materials for their child's learning plans. We have designated specific days for families based on your last name.
Pick up will take place on our student drop off/pick up area in the Sunset Lake parking lot. We ask that you do NOT get out of your vehicle and we will bring your child's materials to your car. You will enter our parking lot from Wellhouse Drive (north of Sunset Lake) and follow the perimeter of our parking lot. We will have people stationed to help you with the flow of our traffic. To help us with the flow of traffic-- we ask that you put a "sign" (piece of paper) in your front dashboard/window with your last name.
Families Designated Days for Pick Up from 1 - 5 pm:
Wednesday- Last name begins with letter A-H
Thursday- Last name begins with letter I-P
Friday- Last name begins with letter Q-Z
*Some of our families have asked about returning books and other items to the school. Please refrain from bringing things back to the school during this pickup time. We will organize return of library books, etc.. at a later time.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Message from our Food Service
Meal Support
Last Wednesday we handed out 14,728 meals to 1052 children! Big thanks to VCS foodservice and transportation staff for their continued help with this huge endeavor. I have linked the Vicksburg Schools Meals Survey if you would like to add your student(s) to the list. These meals are for everyone.
Need comes in all shapes and sizes, not just financial. If this food keeps our families from making extra trips to the store, then it is less exposure for them or family members. If it makes families feel a sense of normalcy when they or their kids can wave at a familiar face at the pickup line. These are just a couple of examples of the needs that we are meeting, some of which are silent.
Remember we are handing out meals every Wednesday through June 10th at our normal distribution times.
If you have questions about our foodservice please email: foodsupport@vicksburgschools.org

VCS Food Department Message
Dear Vicksburg Families,
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT) provides temporary funding to address emergency food needs and avert financial hardship for families affected by the pandemic. Students who qualify for free or reduced price meals for the current school year qualify for the P-EBT. If you were already receiving free or reduced meals during the school year, YOU DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER. If you already have an EBT card, those funds will automatically be added. DHHS will mail the card to others that qualify, between now and Mid-May. The EBT card will come with directions and a phone number to call to activate the card and create a PIN.
If your income has changed due to the pandemic, please complete a Free/Reduced meals application at lunchapp.com. If you submit an application by April 27th and qualify for benefits, your funding will be retroactive to the start of the pandemic. Please submit an application as soon as possible (no later than Monday, April 27th) to ensure you receive these extra benefits!
These benefits are in addition to the free school meals the district is currently offering each Wednesday. The P-EBT funds do not expire for 1 year, so please continue to get the weekly meals and use these funds for other meals or use at a later date.
We encourage all families to take advantage of the weekly meals. They are for everyone, regardless of income, everyone qualifies!
As always, please email foodsupport@vicksburgschools.org if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Sarah Dyer, Food Service Director
