Spring Testing Information
Blue River Valley Schools
Spring in Indiana means it is time for students to participate in required standardized testing. This will occur in both the elementary and the jr./sr. high school at various times in the coming months. Please continue reading for specific testing dates and grade levels. We typically complete testing first thing in the morning. If you have questions about testing at Blue River Schools please contact Mrs. Dickerson.
Grade 11 - School Day SAT Testing - March 5, 2024
All Juniors are required to participate in the SAT assessment at school. BRV will be testing on Tuesday, March 5th. If a student is absent on March 5th, he or she will be required to make-up the assessment upon returning to school.
The SAT assessment is a timed, online assessment consisting of the following:
- Reading and Writing Test: 65 minutes for 55 questions, all multiple-choice
- Mathematics Test: 70 minutes for 44 questions, 75% multiple choice and 25% numeric responses, calculators are allowed on all items.
Cell phones, smart watches, airpods, etc. are not allowed in the testing room.
Grades 2 and 3 - IREAD Testing - March 4-6, 2024
Grade 3 Literacy is a big topic among our Indiana legislatures at the moment. Some requirements of IREAD could change in the very near future depending on what bills are passed when the legislation session closes.
New this year for the first time IREAD is an untimed assessment. The test is still delivered online and all students will have to have a pair of working headphones on the testing days.
Indiana requires all grade 3 students to participate in IREAD-3. It is recommended by the state of Indiana that students who do not pass this exam repeat 3rd grade. Indiana allows grade 2 students the opportunity to participate in IREAD-3. This test is just a practice opportunity for 2nd-grade students to determine where they are currently.
BRV 2nd and 3rd graders will complete IREAD testing March 4th-6th. If a student misses any segment of the IREAD test, he or she will be required to complete the exam upon returning to school. Each segment is predicted to take approximately 30 minutes.
- March 4 - Practice Test
- March 5 - Segment 1 (foundational reading skills) and Segment 2 (silent reading and comprehension)
- March 6 - Segment 3 (silent reading and comprehension)
Grades 3-8 and Biology 1 Students - ILEARN Testing - Begins April 15, 2024
ILEARN assessments are computer-adaptive, which means as the student submits answers the test questions change based on his/her answers. ILEARN assessments are untimed. The finalized BRV ILEARN schedule has not been completed yet, but the testing usually takes multiple days in the middle of April. Again any student who misses a portion of the ILEARN assessments will be required to make-up the exams upon returning to school.
Subjects that are tested on ILEARN are as follows:
- Grade 3 - ELA and Math
- Grade 4 - ELA, Math, and Science
- Grade 5 - ELA, Math, and Social Studies
- Grade 6 - ELA, Math, and Science
- Grade 7 - ELA and Math
- Grade 8 - ELA and Math
- High School Students - at the end of the first year of Biology 1. Government is an optional exam that BRV does not participate in.
