Coming Soon ... A New Social Worker
We are happy to announce that Mrs. Courtney Stonehill will be our new Social Worker. Mrs. Stonehill will be working at Memorial on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She has been working at Flint Lake and will transfer to Memorial the week of January 23. Mrs. Allie and Mrs. Stonehill have a transition plan and will work together to make the change as smooth as possible for the students.
Mrs. Stonehill has two Bachelor Degrees, in Psychology and English. She received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana University Northwest. Her previous work experience includes 5 years as a clinical supervisor & therapist at Choices! Counseling Services in Valparaiso. This position included experience in behaviorism, child custody evaluations, parenting education, individual & familial assessments, and substance abuse.
Mrs. Stonehill's interests include reading and volunteering. She is a Wish Granter for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and an active volunteer and speaker for the American Heart Association. She is also married with 2 amazing children, ages 7 and 3.
We are excited to be working with Mrs. Stonehill and welcome her to the Memorial staff.
BOX TOPS INFORMATION
Keep sending in the Box Tops! We are doing a great job so far, but we still have some work to do to reach our school goal of $1,300.00! Remember to include the name of your child's teacher on any Box Tops that you send in to ensure it is counted toward your child's class total. The class that brings in the most Box Tops will earn a pizza AND ice cream party.
Please check out the new Box Tops Bonus App. It's easy to use AND the school will earn BONUS Box Tops! This app can be used in combination with the on-pack Box Tops that you cut out, so please continue to send those in as well. This gives our school the change give back even more to our students!

Attendance Matters
We recognize there are times when missing school cannot be avoided, such as in cases of illness or for a funeral. When this is the case, please contact the school as soon as possible the morning of the absence. Teachers will prepare make-up work and you may pick it up and work on it at home when your child starts feeling better. If you cannot pick up the make-up work, another possibility would be for the school to send work home with a student who lives close to you. Your child will benefit by having as much of the make-up work done as possible when he/she returns to school.
Some things that can be done to increase student attendance and limit time out of class are scheduling doctor appointments during off school days/hours and scheduling family vacations around school holidays. Additionally some students miss school because they are having anxiety about something at school. We would like to help you with that. Please call us so we can work together to help make your child feel more comfortable about coming to school.

Background Checks
NOTES & REMINDERS:
- Because many of our buses are full, students will only be allowed to ride a bus that is not their own, in an emergency situation.
- Please send a note, or email Mrs. Remijan, in the morning with all changes in transportation. When calls are made during the busy school day, there is a chance that the message may get delayed and/or not delivered. If you have an emergency during the day, which merits a change in transportation, the best way to send the message is to Mrs. Remijan's email: lremijan@valpo.k12.in.us
- If you are sending a note to the school about transportation, please include your child's last name.
- Students may not carry medicine with them throughout the school day, this includes Inhalers. Please talk to the school nurse, Mrs. Scott, about your child's medical needs.
- If your child is late to school (after the 8:45 bell) please walk them into the office and sign them in.
- If you need a copy of the School Wellness Policy, please ask in the office. There is a list of acceptable birthday/classroom treats.
- If you have not completed a Background Check this school year, please do so ASAP. This needs to be done for all visitors and volunteers that are coming to school during the school day.
- If you need a sign for your car for the Pick-Up Line, please call the office.
General Dismissal Procedures
All students who are car riders should leave the building out the east door (Door 2) and wait along the curb on Milton Street. The students should enter the car along the curb as directed by the staff.
Students who are walkers should proceed out the front door and follow the sidewalks along Park and Milton. If you are generally a walker, but plan to drive during the cold winter months, please send in a note and your child can become a car rider.
If you park on Park Avenue to pick up your child who is a walker, please be mindful of the cars that travel down Center Street and leave plenty of room for them to pass through.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping dismissal safe!
Construction Progress is Exciting!
