We're Off to a GREAT Start at QVE!
Dear Eagles,
I am so excited about the wonderful opportunities taking place on our campus. Last week- we witnessed what happens when we all work as a team to ensure we are reinforcing our school-wide expectations. We observed students during arrival, dismissal, and transitions in the hallways being proactive- taking 100% responsibility for their actions. We also observed YOU, our wonderful teachers and staff, modeling and calling attention to the behaviors we expect to see in our school.
During Week 2 we want to encourage you to continue practicing and emphasizing our principles and beliefs as it relates to behavior, conduct, and performance at QVE. By having high expectations for ourselves and our peers – we are innately providing students with a solid representation of what our school should look like and sound like.
Remember your behavior, as well as your expectations, will determine the climate we create at QVE. We all know that it takes time to form new habits and even longer for them to become routine. It is imperative that we take time at the beginning (and throughout the year) to hold tight to our expectations, so don’t loosen up on our school-wide agreements.
We are creating a learning community where students, teachers, and staff are leaders and where our behaviors and expectations determine our results!
Let’s continue to strive for excellence as we share our passion, knowledge, and skills with our students so that they develop a love for learning and discovery!
Let’s make it a great week or not. The choice is yours.

Name Tag Safety
Remember when students are transitioning in the building they should be wearing their name tags. It is ok if you decide to have your class take them off while in your class if it will help minimize distractions. It is also very important that students not wear them to recess because of safety concerns!
Thank you for ensuring that the students are safe at all times,
Jason Strutton

QVE awarded the 2015-2016 WATCH Recognized Wellness Campus Award
Congratulations! Quail Valley Elementary School has been awarded the WATCH Recognized Wellness Campus Award for the 2014-2015 school year. This collaborative effort between the Fort Bend Medical Society Alliance, Fort Bend ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), and the Health and PE Department recognizes campuses for their health and wellness initiatives completed throughout the school year. In order to receive this recognition, schools must complete five of the eight criteria, three of which are mandatory: 1) Have a Campus Wellness Committee; 2) Host a Health/Wellness Event; 3) Hold a Campus-wide Physical Activity; 4) Offer Tobacco Prevention Programs; 5) Incorporate Nutrition and Physical Activity in Core Classes; 6) Participate in the WATCH Health Fair; 7) Offer Non-Food Rewards; 8) Offer a Staff Wellness Program. The first three on the list are mandatory. Submitted applications were reviewed by the award committee as well as the SHAC and winners were selected.
We would especially like to thank your school nurse, Kerrie Talbot, who submitted the WATCH Recognized Wellness Campus Award application on your school’s behalf. It is because of wellness champions like Nurse Talbot that Fort Bend ISD students have access to phenomenal wellness programming.
As part of this special recognition, your campus will receive a WATCH Recognized Wellness Campus Award Banner. We would like to present your campus with the banner in the coming weeks. I will schedule this award presentation with Nurse Talbot and the wellness committee.
We hope that your campus will continue with the innovative and instrumental wellness programming it offers to the students at Quail Valley Elementary School. We look forward to your campus applying again for this school year. Registration is due December 18, 2015 and applications will be available in January, 2016.
Congratulations!

QVE Teacher Leader, Ms. Miriam Vasquez, ESL Teacher
Ms. Vasquez graduated with honors from the University of Houston (Go Coogs) in 1997. She is entering her fourth year at QVE and Fort Bend ISD. Prior to Fort Bend she taught in Houston ISD for fourteen years where she taught first grade Bilingual, Bilingual Reading Intervention, 5th Grade Bilingual, Science Lab (K-5th), and third grade ESL. She decided four years ago, that it was time for a change, and she also wanted to keep her family close . She shared that she is super excited to be a part of the QVE family. She intends to motivate students while teaching them to be intrinsically motivated through challenging yet supportive lessons and assignments. As our campus ESL teacher, she desires to help the students understand and continue to learn about their language, while developing an appreciation for English language and literature. We are honored to recognize Ms. Vasquez as a QVE Teacher Leader!
