LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
April 22nd, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos!
Why do we do what we do? It is for the kids. The students at LISD are our why. Sometimes it is hard to remember that and keep working towards our goals. Sometimes kids make mistakes and so do adults. I challenge you to find one perfect person. You won't be able to do that in our lifetime. I also challenge you to give each other a little grace. Kids deserve grace and so do adults. As adults, we should always remember that there are probably three sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Please remember that when you hear something. I received the message below and I want to share it with you. It is titled "I SEE YOU LISD". And this is what people need to see. This is what everyone needs to know about LISD.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know about y'all but I had to take a break from Facebook because it was difficult reading so many negative comments about LISD. I understand there are concerns that need to be addressed but I kept coming back to all the good happening DAILY within the walls of our schools. I love that my job allows me to work directly with amazing teachers and principals across all campuses and all grade levels. Here's a glimpse of my week....
This week I had the opportunity to co-teach with some amazing 5th, 6th, and 7th grade math teachers. Each teacher planned interactive activities allowing students to engage in meaningful discussions. During our PLCs teachers questioned whether they are "doing enough" for their students. I can assure you they are doing enough and then some! Not only are they teaching math, they are building meaningful relationships with their students!
A third grade math teacher reached out to me because she was going to be out of town Friday with her son at the state NHD competition. She didn't want her students to miss a day of STAAR review for their upcoming math assessment and asked me to teach her math classes. Math is my jam so of course I jumped on the opportunity! Her students were extremely pleasant and were excited about learning. This teacher instilled a love of learning in her students! The substitute jumped right in to help students as well!
This week I sent out draft Eureka lesson plan calendars for the 24-25 school year and teachers across elementary campuses are ready to share their implementation of Eureka on their campus. They all understand we are better TOGETHER! I'm looking forward to our planning days this summer!
Friday I received a phone call from a high school biology teacher. She created a google classroom full of EOC review activities for students who are unable to attend the review camp on Monday. This teacher went above and beyond to help not only her students, but all biology students!
Lastly, I have to brag on the kinder teachers. Let's face it, that is where it all begins. Going into this school year our goal was to find a realistic way to assess kinder students throughout each Eureka math module. We worked closely through checklists, observational assessments, and finally common assessments in eduphoria. It was a long process but the kinder teachers stuck with it and we are proud of the data they are now able to collect and track for their students!
Day in and day out, I get to witness teachers pouring their heart into teaching. They LOVE their students even when they aren't perfect. They push students to be better, to do better. I also get to witness principals supporting their teachers and pushing them to strive for excellence!
These are the things I wish the public could see! If the public could see what I see, they would LOVE LISD like I do! LISD is not perfect, but I don't know of any district that is perfect. I pray for our teachers and administrators daily! Being an educator is one of the toughest professions but also one of the most rewarding. I am thankful for the small role I play in educating our kids! I am thankful I get to do so working alongside each of you!
Please join me in praying for LISD.
Gracie Ruiz

National Football Foundation Scholarships!
These two guys! Levelland ISD and LHS are so excited for Seniors Mark Buxkemper and Austin Ellis. They were honored last week at the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner with scholarships. The NFF ensures and promotes the future of amateur football, and we are so proud that our two guys were a part of it. These two have grown up loving the game and were proud to be a part of the Lobo Football Team for many years. Not only are these boys leaders on the field, they also excel in the classroom! Austin is our 2024 Valedictorian and Mark is 6th in the graduating class. Both boys are active in National Honor Society and both are NHS Officers. They have both taken dual credit courses at South Plains College and Austin is actually a graduate of SPC. They are also active in Young Emerging Leaders of Levelland and could be the future leaders of our community. Mark and Austin are also active in other organizations including Future Christian Athletes! Mark is very active in Future Farmers of America and enjoys showing his barrows in Hockley County and major showrings. Austin also competed in powerlifting and track and field events, as well as academic UIL events. There's so much to say about these two boys. Congratulations Mark & Austin on one more amazing accolade! Thank you Coach Leong for #expectingexcellence, loving your athletes, and promoting their successes!

ABC Authors
ABC Pre-K students in Mrs. Desireee Nock's class finished up their community helper unit by writing a book! The kids picked the title, Our Future Plans! Their book ia about what they want to be when they grow up and help in the community! This is such a great project that enables our Littles to start thinking about the future! Great job kids!
Entrepreneurs Learning from Monsoon!
Mr. Russell Hill's Entrepreneur class and Mrs. Scott Lawson's Career Prep class enjoyed a visit from Mr. Caleb Monroe. Mr. Monroe is the owner and CEO of Monsoon Graphic Design and Web Development. He spoke to LHS students telling them how to be an underdog and start with nothing, how to get funding, how to be successful, how to grow their business, and what not to do. Students are learning so much and have the best questions. Some are ready to take on the world!
Autism Awareness
After their annual egg cracking event, ABC presented a check to Mr. Zeth to donate to the Burkhart Center for Autism! Thank you to everyone who purchased confetti eggs for this fundraiser!
