TEKS Standards
Every curriculum unit for our core content subject areas are based on our Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS that the State of Texas requires all schools to teach students. These standards outline the major focus of our lessons and activities. 6th Grade Math - 6th Graders will study the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents and how to convert quantities from one form to another. (6.4G)

7th Grade Math
7th Grade Math - Students will begin unit 6 which focuses on data analysis. The TEKS focus of the unit is 7.12ABC, 7.6FG. These TEKS require students to analyze data in multiple forms. 7th Grade will also begin exploring financial literacy including simple and compound interest. Students will examine the process for calculating both types of interest and the differences between the two. (7.13e

7th Grade ELA
7th Grade ELA - This week in 7th grade ELA, the students will review elements of parts of speech and use their mock writing assessment to determine areas of needed improvements. The reading unit focus will be novel reading and analysis. (TEKS - 7.14ABCDE).

7th Grade Science
7th Grade - The unit focus is on the topics of reproduction and hereditary. Students will be learning about sexual and asexual reproduction through various activities as well as conducting a dissection lab on Quails. (TEKS 7.14B)

7th Grade Texas History (U.S. History Unit)
7th Grade - Students will be engaged in activities that focus on the Texas Revolution, Republic, and Statehood. Students will focus on the causes of the Texas Revolution and the events that led to Texas becoming its own independent nation.

8th Grade Math
8th Grade Math - Students will begin Unit 6, Volume and Surface Area. Students will begin exploring the volume of cylinders, cone, and spheres. Students will also discover how the formulas for the volume of these figures are related. 8.6A, 8.7A

Algebra - Algebra Students will begin Unit 9, Introduction to Exponents. Students will learn how to simplify radical expressions involving square roots and simplify numeric and algebraic expressions using the laws of exponents. TEKS A11.A and A.11B

8th Grade ELA
8th Grade ELA - The reading unit focus will be on non-fiction texts. Students will continue their non-fiction focus on literary non-fiction. (TEKS - 8.7A, 8.7Fig19D, 8.7Fig19E). Students will evaluate varying texts for BIAS and INTENT and distinguish facts from opinions. Students will construct a debate and execute it. (TEKS: 8.24A, 8.24B, 8.25A, 8.25B)

8th Grade Science
8th Grade - The students will begin unit 7 which focuses on Earth's cycles. The initial lessons will target day and night cycles and season cycles. (TEKS 8.7A). Students will model and illustrate how the tilted Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night, and revolves around the Sun causing changes in seasons.

8th Grade U.S. History
8th Grade - Students will be engaged in activities that focus on the Age of Jackson and Westward Expansion. Students will focus on Andrew Jackson's election and presidency.
