MCHENRY COUNTY HONOR BAND STUDENTS
Congratulations to Caleb Cox, Emma Leucht, Cadence Leucht, and Ava Kanaly for being accepted into the McHenry County Honor Band. These students joined the top high school musicians in McHenry County for three days to prepare for a concert on Sunday, January 20th. They worked with Cary native Dr. Cormac Cannon, the Director of Music from the University of South Carolina.
CONGRATULTIONS TO EMMA LEUCHT
Emma Leucht represented Marengo in the Future Music Educators Seminar (FMES) during the Illinois Music Educators Conference January 25 - 27. She was selected to be part of the All-State group of 50 students out of many students who applied. She is the first student to represent Marengo at All-State for at least 20 years. Congratulations to Emma!
PROM GUIDELINES
Prom is scheduled for April 20, 2024. Please remember there are academic and behavioral expectations associated with attending all high school dances. Students must:
- Be passing at least 5 classes
- Have no more than 2 days of ISS per semester
- Have no more than one SCAP per semester
- Have no days of OSS
This eligibility criteria regarding the 2024 Prom will be reviewed with students in February. If you are academically at-risk or unsure if you have met the criteria, it is recommended you delay purchasing dress attire and tickets until such time that you are approved. More information regarding 2024 Prom will be released at the end of February. Disciplinary consequences from previous disciplinary action(s) must be served before purchasing a ticket; the final day to serve consequences is April 11th. Any questions, comments, or appeals should be directed to administration as soon as possible.

HOSA BLOOD DRIVE
Thank you to all those who supported the blood drive through donating and encouraging student participation. We exceeded our goal with a collection count of 28 blood products, and our lifesaving event helped to make a difference to 78 local families!

Class of 2028 Freshman Orientation Night
Where: MCHS Auditorium
Who: Class of 2028 and their parents/guardians
When: February 7, 2024, at 6:30pm.
Please attend the Freshmen Orientation Night as MCHS faculty welcome the Class of 2028 to high school. Students will receive an orientation packet with all material required to turn in for enrollment in District 154. Please plan on attending this very informative event and meet some teachers and staff members at MCHS.
Class Updates
Freshmen and Sophomores: Explore summer opportunities. Look for a great summer experience— job, internship, or volunteer position. Check with your counselor and search online for summer learning programs.
Juniors: Continue to prepare to take the SAT in April. Utilize your Khan Academy account.
Seniors: Apply today for scholarships! An updated list is on the Student Services web page. Area scholarships include: FFA Alumni, Women of McHenry County, Future Educators, Marengo Woman’s Club, and John Swanson. MCC scholarships can be found here.
FAFSA is NOW OPEN for the 2024-2025 school year. The Class of 2024 must fill out the FAFSA form or the Opt Out Form as a state requirement to graduate in May. Opt Out Forms should be turned in to your School Counselor as soon as possible. McHenry County College has information sessions open to the county at no cost. Please sign up here. Any other student, regardless of income, who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs. This includes grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans.

It takes most people less than one hour to fill out the FAFSA form, including gathering any personal documents and financial information needed to complete it.

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Dental Examination Requirement
Current 9th grade students are required to provide proof of a dental examination performed by a licensed dentist by May 15, 2024. If you have not already submitted this, please provide the required documentation to our school nurse. School dental examinations must have been completed within the 18 months prior to May 15. Meningococcal Vaccine Required
The Meningococcal vaccine is required for students entering 12th grade. The Illinois Department of Public Health is requiring that all student entering 12th grade show proof of two doses of meningococcal vaccine unless the first dose was administered after 16 years of age. In this case, only one dose is required.
Asthma Action Plan
New policy was enacted in 2017 that states we must request an asthma action plan from parents of student who have asthma. This form must be completed by a physician and returned to the school nurse.

FNBO Challenge
The winter FNBO Challenge with Harvard was moved from January 12th to January 25th due to inclement weather. Marengo had a great night at Harvard. Wrestling won their match 40- 30, Girls Basketball won 49-29 and Boys Basketball won 55 - 44. Both cheer squads performed as well. The 2023 FNBO Challenge was a huge success raising $27,720.30. This amount has been split evenly between Harvard and Marengo’s booster clubs with each club receiving $13,860.15. Great job to everyone!

Boys Bowling
The boys bowling team had an exciting regional at Cherry Bowl in Rockford on January 17th. They finished in 2nd place (highest finish for any boys bowling team in school history) and were only 74 pins away from the championship. The Boys Bowling season ended on Saturday, January 20th at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford at the IHSA Sectional Tournament. Senior Justin Fluger ended his bowling career at MCHS and will go down as one of the best bowlers in MCHS history. He is the only Marengo boy bowler to roll a 300 game. The boys had a great season and should be proud of their accomplishments throughout this season. The boys bowling team will return three of the five starters next season.

Marengo Cheer placed 4th at KRC and hit a season high score at sectionals to end the competition season!
