CVHS Post Grad Newsletter
March 14th, 2024
Days Until Graduation: 69
School Days Until Graduation: 37
All seniors must complete all graduation requirements. Make sure to communicate with your counselor to make sure you are on track for credits (24 Credits) and English/Math Competencies. You also need to complete all tasks assigned in Naviance (graduation requirement to complete an academic plan) and turn in 20 hours of community service by April 5th.
- Senior graduation speeches and entertainment tryouts are on the horizon! Speeches are due March 25th. Time limit is 2 minutes. Remember, you will be auditioning for one of four speakers (one from each academy). Leave your classmates with an inspirational message. You will upload your video to your google drive (or other linkable source) and then share the link in this form. Currently, I only have ONE speech submitted for LGC, STEM and VPA.
Colleges
- Have you committed to a school or program? Make sure to contact the schools/programs you will not attend in the fall to let them know you are no longer interested. They will stop contacting you and it opens a spot for someone else.
- Make sure to update me regarding college acceptance and commitments!
If you need a reminder on how to request transcripts, it's on the Post Grad website: How to Request Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation. To pay for transcripts, go through this direct link or login to MySchoolBucks and search "transcripts" to find and add CVHS TRANSCRIPTS. Students, don't forget to e-mail me or see me to let me know where and what you want sent!
- If you need to send your transcripts from Arapahoe Community College, you send them through the ACC website.
- We have a few colleges visiting Castle View this winter. If you listed a college in "colleges I'm applying to" or colleges I'm thinking about" in Naviance, you will receive an e-mail notification about the visit as soon as it's scheduled. If you don't have colleges updated in Naviance, you will have to frequently visit Naviance or the College Visit calendar to check upcoming visits. You must register for each visit in Naviance and pick up your pass the morning of the visit.
- Fort Lewis College - Monday, March 25th at 1:30 PM
- Universal Technical Institute of Arizona Inc - Wednesday, March 27th at 12:30 PM
- Final transcripts are final because they include final semester 2 grades and the graduation date. Students request these transcripts through a final survey in Naviance as part of their senior check-out. Seniors can complete the survey with Ms. Gentry as soon as they commit to post grad plans. Once the district adds the graduation date to the transcript (usually in the beginning of June) I send out all final transcripts. You do not need to pay another $3 if you have already paid for that school to receive a transcript.
FAFSA
Students and schools navigate FAFSA delays
All the Latest FAFSA/CASFA Updates
On January 30, the U.S. Department of Education announced that ISIRS to state agencies and colleges will be delayed until the first half of March due to updating the SAI formula tables to the inflation percentage. Students and Contributors will not receive their submission summary or be able to make corrections on the form until Mid-March.
Most likely students will not receive award letters until mid-April with this delay. Paper FAFSAs submitted will not be processed until the backlog of online forms are processed.
According to the National Attainment Network (NCAN), students that are encountering issues submitting their FAFSA and have pressing deadlines, can submit a paper FAFSA. Students should continue checking online to see if the issue is resolved and still file an online version since it will be processed first. If the issue gets resolved, the online application will get processed first and FSA will count the paper one as a duplicate. NCAN also advises students to delete the FAFSA and start over if they get stuck within the FAFSA and can't proceed.
Uaspire created a short video on how to delete the form.
Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA)
The 2024-25 Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA) opened on December 31, 2023!
The CASFA is the state financial aid application for undocumented, Colorado ASSET students. The CASFA bridges equity gaps and creates access to postsecondary education for qualifying students. Students who do not have lawful immigration status and who do not meet Colorado ASSET qualifications are still encouraged to apply for institutional aid using the CASFA. Students who are eligible for Federal Title IV aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should not complete the CASFA.
If you work directly with students, please encourage them to complete the 2024-25 CASFA as soon as possible. Applying sooner will encourage financial aid offices to process and award aid with improved timeliness.
