Mustang Round-Up
October 27, 2019 Volume 13
Reflections From the Principal
I wanted to update you on our chromebook cases. The cases are ordered and have been for many weeks, however, the company had to remake the mold on some of their products and it has pushed back the delivery for us until mid November. I wanted to key you all up to speed on our covers.
Also, we have the new TV's mounted in the cafeteria, but there have been glitches getting them hooked up to the internet so we do not have announcements running at this point. Therefore, Eric and Tab have been posting announcements on our website, as well as on our Facebook page and my Twitter account (@FC_Mustangs). Mrs. Walls also sends the announcements via email. Please make sure your homeroom students know where to find the announcements.
I'm looking forward to a great week!

Great Things I Saw This Week
I also had the opportunity to watch Mrs. Larson in action with her 8th grade Algebra I students. Her ability to incorporate technology and student collaboration into her lessons to keep students engaged in math is outstanding. Mrs. Larson had differentiated problems for students and QR codes to scan to go along with them. The problems were scattered around the room to keep students up, moving, and engaged. Great job, Mrs. Larson!
Last but not least, I have to mention Mr. Williams and our welding program. Mr. Williams spends so much time giving students detailed feedback and support on each welding piece. He has multiple examples and teaches students to critique every little detail on their work. The rapport that Mr. Williams has with his class is second to none. He's always concerned about his students' success both inside his classroom and in life. Thanks, Mr. Williams!

If You Ate Today....Thank a Farmer!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our first honor roll celebration a success by serving ice cream sundaes! Also, thank you to the FFA program for sponsoring the ice cream to make it happen!
Feature a Teacher!
Mr. David Kight
Years served in Corporation: 19 Years
Currently Teaching: Current Events (JH & HS), 8th grade Social Studies, Indiana Studies (HS).
“Coach Kight was a great coach because he was honest and didn’t sugar coat anything, and pushed us to be better than we were the day before. He cared about helping me become a successful tennis player, but ultimately wanted me to be a successful person.”
-Amy Ellis
“I had the privilege of having Mr. Kight as both a teacher and a coach. On and off the court he is a passionate and dedicated person. He always went above and beyond to make sure his students were successful, but also made sure they were having fun along the way."
-Kody Keeling
#MustangMindset, SEL Coordinator
I follow Lori Desautels on Twitter and as I was scrolling through my feed this week, I saw an article by her that was shared in Edutopia. I was intrigued so I read it and I recommend it for anyone who struggles with the roles of SEL, discipline, and teachers. The article discusses the increase in “students of all ages carrying in anxiety, adversity, and trauma from a variety of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)” and what teachers can do to help reach their students who are coming from this background in order to educate them. It was a quick read that gives some easy tips for dealing with students who can be difficult in the classroom. HERE is the link AND here is your weekly classroom management tip and poem. Tip 3: Do not, at any cost, yell and scream at a student.
Lost Within a Shout
You yelled at me and I yelled back-What else was there to do?
We yelled some more and out throats got sore, and the tension grew and grew
And finally, in exhaustion, we both ran out of steam
Left standing in embarrassment, no pride left to redeem
What point is there in thinking that being “right” we must
And pushing on till all involved just lose respect and trust?
Maybe if we’d listened, we could have met half way
Let’s talk next time and really hear what the other has to say
For if we both could do that, maybe we’d find out
That never had a point been made when lost within a shout!
