Akin News 10/23
From the desk of Beckie Webster
Thank you for keeping the focus on student learning:
Thank you to our teachers welcoming us in their classrooms for #AkinLivePD today-Jessica Weiss, Deandra Wright-Hall and Alissa Nelson. The wise Richard DeFour (PLC guy) would say that if you don't know how your teachers on your team teach then you are just a group. Having these opportunities create a strong, trusted TEAM and your feedback during these observations have been overwhelming positive! Thank you for your flexibility from our Sped. Team to ensure our students get the highest quality teaching and learning here at Akin!

Culturally Sensitive Practices
As fall arrives and the holiday season is rapidly arriving, it is time to review practices around Thanksgiving programs and lessons.
As a district, we need to challenge the dominant and often inaccurate narrative about Thanksgiving and provide students with a more balanced perspective of this holiday. Teaching Tolerance has provided a list of resources for all grade levels to more accurately portray the first Thanksgiving. Scholastic also has many resources for grades PK-8.

Substitutes Needed!
We are struggling with ensuring we have subs. across the district and here at Akin. Please make sure you have lined-up a sub. before taking a day off (splitting kids is no fun for the teachers or the kids). Subs are dropping jobs in the middle of the night-so be on the lookout. If you are sick, put your day in asap and have a preferred sub. list. Please make sure you have an extra student roster in your sub plans, too. Thank you!
