CURRENT 5th-Grade info
The 5th-Graders will have an assembly on Monday, April 29th to introduce them to the world of INSTRUMENTS in BAND and ORCHESTRA!!
All 5th-graders will attend this amazing showcase of awesomeness. Both band and Orchestra will highlight each and every instrument available to play next year in 6th Grade. (YES! Band and Orchestra start in 6th-Grade!!)On May 1st, we will have what we call an instrument 'fitting'. This will be done during the school day and each student will have a chance to TRY the instruments that interest them.
They will then complete a band or orchestra selection for next year, and the corresponding teachers will reach out to parents to advise of the next steps.
As a mommy with one child in band and one in orchestra, this process is SUPER simple. All YOU need to do is talk to your child about which instrument they would like to play and then wait for the information to be sent home (normally via email so the 'super responsible' 5th grader doesn't lose the paperwork) and respond if needed.
Just in case you need a refresher:
BAND: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, French Horn, Percussion, (and many more!)
ORCHESTRA: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass (stringed instruments)

Mmmmmm, Donuts...
I like donuts. Donuts are pretty much the greatest invention. EVER. They make great breakfasts, snack, late night sweet treat craving snacks and can be used to bribe your favorite secretary when needed.
The Orchestra is hosting a digital KRISPY KREME fundraiser!!

Donuts make a GREAT end of year teacher gifts.... ;)
Headphone and Earbud- UPDATE
THANK YOU for making sure your child has WIRED headphones or earbuds for testing. It was a team effort, and it paid off!
Just a reminder that the kids should leave their bluetooth devices AT HOME. There have been a TON of missing airpods and headphones. We are not responsible for lost or stolen electronics.
If your child brings something valuable to school (headphones, airpods, pokemon cards, cash) they are doing so AT THEIR OWN RISK.
Counselor's Corner
April 2024
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable spring break! We are quickly making our way through the 4th quarter of school. As a friendly reminder 6th grade parents please remind your students that if they would like to play sports next year at the junior high schools they must meet the grade requirements in the 4th quarter of 6th grade. To be eligible for sports students are required to have a GPA of at least 1.75 AND passing at least 5 of their classes. Please check the 6th Grade newsletter for more information.
During the beginning of April I will be visiting classrooms to provide the required Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Lesson to students. Opt outs were due April 1st! If you have not sent me an opt out for your student and meant to please do so ASAP. There will not be a guidance lesson during the month of May.
OST is also starting this month. This is an opportunity for your students to show us what their phenomenal teachers have taught them this year and the students' hard work and dedication from this school year! April 11th is our first day of state testing. See above for the testing scheduling. Please be mindful to ensure students arrive at school on time as students who arrive after testing has started will not be permitted to enter the classroom. Those students will have to take their test on a makeup day. Looking forward to May, iReady Spring testing will occur after OST. There will be more information to come on this.
Ask your students about the Say Something Activity that Harmon participated in Friday March 22nd! PHSN Sunny Side Up Students and Advisors visited our building to lead an activity to improve the sense of belonging for amongst students and empower their voice to stand up for themselves and others. It was awesome to see Harmon come together and participate. I am hopeful that all students were impacted in some way small or big.
