Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning 20 February
Dear Parents and Staff
There was much excitement and screams of laughter as the children celebrated our 10 years of amalgamation on the water slide and bouncy castles last Friday. Our day commenced with Mass during which Fr Quynh recounted aspects of our journey so far highlighting that we have so much to be thankful for. During the Mass time some of our Kindy daredevils tested out the slide and their verdict was a big thumbs up. The fun continued with each of the classes throughout the day and then extended into the evening with the P&F hosting our annual Night Market consisting of great food and entertainment. Thank you to all who attended and made this such a positive start to our school year.
ASH WEDNESDAY
Next Wednesday morning at 9.30am our Year 3-6 students will join with the students from St Maria Goretti’s School to celebrate Mass and receive the ashes which are a reminder of our humanity and that we belong to God. Although not a Holy Day of Obligation, the celebration of Mass and receiving the ashes is an excellent way to commence the Season of Lent as we wait for Jesus’ glorious Resurrection at Easter. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence which means we should limit how much we eat and not eat meat. This rule does not apply to children.
CONGRATULATIONS!
At a special Assembly last Wednesday morning our Faction Captions and Library Monitors were presented with their badges. Congratulations to all students who have taken on leadership roles for 2020.

BUSHFIRE FUNDRAISER
We are all aware of the devastation of the bushfires across Australia over the past few months. Rather than just talk about this issue, our Year Six classes have decided to do something. On Thursday 27 February all staff and children are asked, as a sign of solidarity, to wear their best Aussie clobber to school for the day. A gold coin donation will be collected and passed on to the St Vincent de Paul Bushfire Appeal to support those who suffered throughout this terrible ordeal.
STOLEN
Last Monday two bicycles were stolen from the bike racks behind the Multi-Purpose Hall. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information which may assist please contact the school office.
YEAR SIX CAMP
The children were very excited as they left for camp on Monday morning. From all reports this excitement has continued throughout the week and we look forward to all of our campers, students and staff, returning exhausted on Friday afternoon.
DON’T FORGET
Friday 28 February is a Professional Development day for staff and children do not attend on this day.

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS
Wow! What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had in Pre-Primary. We have been busy learning the routines, playing on the new playgrounds and catching up with all our friends.
During our literacy rotations we have been revising our letter names and sounds, reading some new and exciting stories and practising our fine motor tracing, gluing and cutting skills all in preparation for some writing. We are doing a fantastic job at using the letter names and sounds that we know to write our names. Keep up the fantastic work Pre-Primary.
In Mathematics we are busy becoming counting experts. We have been practising our counting from 1 to 20 and are even beginning to write our numbers. We have also been learning lots about sorting. We have learnt that we can sort ourselves, shapes, colours and objects.
Last Friday we had the opportunity to go on some fantastic water slides. We loved sliding fast down the slide and doing lots of jumping on the Frozen bouncy castle. We wish we could have a water slide at school everyday!
We have lots of exciting things to learn this term and can’t wait to continue our learning journey in Pre-Primary

BUSHFIRE FUNDRAISER
The Year Sixes have been working hard on organising a bushfire fundraiser for the St Vincent de Paul Bushfire Appeal. On Thursday 27th of February, all of Notre Dame will be able to wear Australian-themed costumes, such as Australian Sporting Teams, Australian colours, Australian Native Animals and so much more. Please bring a gold coin donation to raise funds for this worthy cause.
Bushfires in Australia have been getting out of control but we are working hard to help those in need. The money that we raise will go towards the St Vincent de Paul Bushfire Appeal.
Together we can make a change

PARENT TV
The impact of doing this small thing has the power to change your relationship for the better - whether they are in preschool or in high school.

Like most parents, we wish we could protect our kids forever and shield them from hurtful experiences. However, as the prime time for bullying is when kids are not under our supervision, instead we need to equip them with the tools to diffuse and deal with bullying situations effectively before they go too far.
So how do you teach your children to handle bullies?
