Tips for Transitions to Remote Learning
You’ve just received the phone call sharing that your child’s school is switching to remote learning because of staffing. Are you ready?
As our classrooms continue to navigate these unprecedented times - and schools are periodically forced to transition to remote learning - we want families to have the right resources to help their children access quality instruction at home.
When there’s a temporary school-level transition to remote learning, most of our teachers will continue to use Clever, Google Classroom, and Zoom for teacher-led or asynchronous (self-paced) instruction.
Here’s a tip for parents to start with: ask your child to show you how they log into Clever or Google Classroom to find assignments. Do they know the Zoom Link to connect to their teachers and do they know what time they need to be on camera?
If they struggle with answers on logging in, we’ve put together some helpful tips and instructions for parents to use. It can all be found at www.ccsoh.us/Page/11218.
You’ll find easy-to-follow videos and directions on starting up your child’s Chromebook, logging into Clever or the Parent Portal, directions for using Zoom and Google Tools, and reminders on how student access their school emails and resources.
Panorama Survey 2022
Panorama Survey 2022
The Panorama Survey is a way for families to have a voice in district decisions and practices. Please ask your families to take 10-15 minutes to complete the Family-School Relationships Survey on or before January 28th.
Families with children at more than one school should complete one survey for their oldest child in each school.
How you can help:
- Pass out flyers with survey QR codes at sporting events, make announcement at half - time
- Include survey in weekly Smore or school newsletter
- Ask families if you can text or email the survey link to them while making check and connect calls
- Ask school groups such as PTO to use survey as an exit ticket after meetings

Latino Family Outreach
Ms. Celene Burt and Mr. Chad Smith will be your contacts for our Latino families who have students at Centennial and there is a language barrier between home and school. We are asking you to fill out our request form so that we can have student names since we might not have your student on our rosters. Once any teacher makes an outreach request, Celene and I will send out an email to all teachers who have that student, and each teacher should give us an update via email on how this student is performing in class. We will update parents as often as needed with current grades, behavior, and/or attendance. Once a student is referred by using this Google Form, there is no need to do a repeat referral as that student will be on our list. Please keep in mind that not all Latino families have language barriers and only use us when you are certain that communication in Spanish is truly needed.
Once contact has been made with parents or guardians, we will be sending back an email that summarizes our communication and what follow ups that the parents or guardians have requested. We will upload this communication into the student’s PLP file for you.
We look forward to building stronger relationships with our Latino families and if you have any suggestions to improve our process, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your support,
Chad Smith

Scholarship Essay Contest!
We are excited to announce the launch of the Bill of Rights Institute's !
This year's topic is:
Answering the question requires an understanding of natural rights and how they relate to the principle of respect and how the flourishing of a free society is dependent upon them. To truly explore this question in an essay that is between 500 -800 words, students will need to go beyond "dictionary definitions," and express their understanding and reasoning about the connections among these principles. This reasoning involves a combination of observation, experience, and some pretty "big ideas." What does it take to understand them? To build toward and maintain them? To see them with regard to each other? Why are these relationships important?
We encourage students to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples, and well-researched facts into what they write. A good essay will demonstrate how these principles are not just abstract ideas but are part of people's everyday actions and choices.

New Changes to Purchasing Tickets for Student Activities and Sporting Events
District Moves to Cashless Ticketing System
The Columbus City Schools Office of Student Activities is excited to announce a new online ticket purchasing process that is convenient and easy to use. Starting with this winter sports season, the District will move to a cashless ticketing system.
Spectators wishing to attend a CCS high school ticketed sporting event will be required to purchase tickets online in advance of the contest.
Using a mobile phone, computer, or laptop device, individuals wishing to attend an event can access the Local Level platform, type the school name in the search box, and get a populated list of sporting events for which tickets can be purchased. Once purchased, tickets can be printed or scanned at the door right from your mobile phone.
This will allow for a contact-free, COVID-friendly entrance process. In addition, all guests will be required to wear a mask at all CCS athletic events and adhere to all health protocols issued by the District.
