Dear Saint Ambrose Parents,
As we prepare for the holiest week of the year, we are grateful for the opportunity to practice our faith together. On Wednesday (3/27), we do not have a school Mass scheduled, but our 8th graders have planned a special way to pray the Stations of the Cross for our K-8th grade students. Thank you, Ms. Schisler for helping support the leadership of the 8th graders.
Because we want all students attending to be able to see, our plan is to split the students into two groups. If parents want to attend, you are welcome, know that we will prioritize student seating.
9:40-10:10- Stations of the cross for Mrs. Kinne, Mrs. Schreier, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade
10:15-10:45- Stations of the Cross for Mrs. McMillan, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th
Important Notes:
- Summer School Registration is open - some classes only have a few spots remaining! Register soon for first choice of classes.
- Please be prepared with appropriate clothing to go outside for PE classes.
- 2024 - 2025 Calendar - Can you believe we are looking at next year? Please pay close attention to the starting date and also the dates that we will not receive bussing services.
Lord, give me faith, faith in your endless mercy, your boundless forgiveness, your unfathomable goodness. Let me not be tempted to think that my sins are too great to be forgiven, too abominable to be touched by your mercy. Let me never run away from you but return to you again and again, asking you to be my Lord, my Shepherd, my Stronghold, and my Refuge.
Take me under your wing, O Lord, and let me know that you do not reject me as long as I keep asking you to forgive me. Perhaps my doubt in your forgiveness is a greater sin than the sins I consider too great to be forgiven. Perhaps I make myself too important, too great when I think that I cannot be embraced by you anymore. Lord, look at me, accept my prayer as you accepted Peter’s prayer, and let me not run away from you in the night as Judas did.
Bless me, Lord, in this Holy Week, and give me the grace to know your loving presence more intimately. Amen.

Our Monthly Focus is on Lent - Pray, Fast and Give
The days of Lent are a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter. During Lent, we are invited to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ and join him on his journey to Jerusalem, where he was crucified. This journey reminds us that Jesus brought new life to the world through his death on the cross and teaches us how to live as People of God.
This journey encourages us to engage in the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. This involves praying for ourselves and others, giving up something, and generously sharing our time and ourselves. These practices remind us that denial and struggle are essential aspects of living as disciples of Jesus and ultimately lead us to new life.
By engaging in these practices, we prepare ourselves for the greatest celebration of the liturgical year, Easter.
Here is a daily mediation for students that you might want to share and pray with your child(ren).

Words are Fun!
Kids learn vocabulary through talking and conversing, as well as through listening to books read aloud. Books are found to have much higher levels of vocabulary (rare words) than TV shows (Trelease, 2013). As you’re talking or reading to your child, stop and put words in kid-friendly definitions. If you see a word you don’t know, model finding the definition. Remind your kids that in different cultures and settings, we use different types of words. It’s great to know the plethora of ways words are used!
Updates/Reminders:
- If you are tardy for school (9:20 or after), please come to the North Entrance and check in at the school office. The South Side is locked at 9:20.
- During COVID, we didn't ask parents to sign students out of the office consistently. We have developed some bad habits, and need to get back to a safer sign-out process. If your child(ren) are leaving early, you need to come into the school and sign them out in the office. Thank you!
- School Emergency Closing Notifications -This school year we will continue to use our Sycamore System for text and email notifications for school closures and delays due to inclement weather. You may also check Kare 11 and WCCO for notification that District 833 is closed - if they are closed we will be closed. Make sure to update Sycamore with your current phone numbers and emails as soon as possible.

Handbook
Here is our student handbook for this school year:
Cold Weather Procedures
During the cold winter months, we ask that parents make a special effort to see that their children are dressed appropriately (i.e. hats, mittens, boots, etc.).
The children go outside for recess daily in the lower grades unless the air or wind chill temperature exceeds –10 degrees. During winter months, we sometimes receive requests to keep children inside during recess. Such requests are difficult to honor because classrooms are not under supervision during that time. Generally if a child is well enough to attend school they should be well enough to participate in recess.
We have found that a short period of outdoor activity is extremely important in order to refresh each child. The children then arrive back in their classrooms better prepared to resume their studies.

Mission and Philosophy
Mission (what we offer)
We at Saint Ambrose School are part of a vibrant Catholic community supporting and nurturing
each child on their journey with Christ.
Through exceptional academics, embracing each child’s unique strengths and needs, and
joyfully engaging in prayer and service, we take a holistic, virtue-based approach to student
education and experiences. This is the Saint Ambrose Way.
Vision (what we aspire to)
As a thriving Catholic school, we create meaningful impact though each family we support and
student we send into the world.
By helping form the whole child, students are not only prepared well for the next level of
education, but life as Christian adults living the Saint Ambrose Way.
Philosophy
The Saint Ambrose community recognizes the partnership between parents, students, staff,
administration and parishioners in providing for the development of its members as people of
faith who worship, learn and grow together. As a community we have a responsibility to
support families- as the primary educators of their children- while providing enriching
experiences that promote a sense of belonging and responsibility to a community.
