Brown School Buzz
June 23, 2023
Dear Families,
It happens every year....we all look at each other-parents and teachers alike, and say, “Where did the year go?” It never ceases to amaze us all. So, I thought I would take this opportunity to remind us all where it went...
The 2022-23 school year went to: learning to read letters, sounds, words, little books and chapter books. It was a year for learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide, making predictions, and learning to play the recorder. It was soccer games and football on the basketball court, flying down the slide, and it was a year of amazing Enrichment activities! The year went to learning about pilgrims and natives, honoring our veterans, and getting into mischief on the playground. It was the year for getting a stomach bug, getting better, getting mad at our friends, and getting over it. It was singing, creating works of art, running, skipping, hopping and jumping rope for the heart association. It was doing research in the library, printing a report, presenting a project, and pledging our allegiance. It was Marblehead projects, biographies, and animal projects. It was learning the difference between nouns and verbs, and understanding number stories. It was writing poetry, singing at the Memorial Day assembly, celebrating live music in the foyer, and reading morning messages. It was a year of holiday wishes, our dreams for the world, and celebrations. It was running late for school, doing homework at the last minute, packing lunches, and telling stories. It went to science experiments, mapmaking, having a picnic and author celebrations. It was dance parties, a tour of the town, a trip to the sea, and saying goodbye....and so much more. It was definitely an eventful year with so many smiles, a few tears, and much laughter. And so it goes....
Thank you to all of our students, staff, parents, volunteers, and community members who have contributed to a year full of learning, growing and joyful moments.
See you all on September 5th for our first day of school...when we’ll do it all again...only even better!

Field Day Awesomeness and Gratitude!!!!
To our Brown School Families and PTO,
Thank you, thank you to all who helped make our first field day at our beautiful school an enormous success. We could not have done it without you ALL. Thank you PTO for the Richie's Slushie Treat to close each field day. We hope you have a wonderful, healthy summer. Best wishes to our 3rd graders and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
With great appreciation,
Danielle McGrath & Amie James
Something to consider for your Summer to-do List!
If you are thinking about volunteering in our school or for a field trip in the fall or anytime next year, you may want to think about completing the paperwork this summer.
The requirements for volunteering at the Brown School for chaperoning field trips and for volunteering in the classroom include having a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and Fingerprinting.
The CORI process is a multi step process:
1. The potential volunteer goes to the DISTRICT WEBSITE to begin the process of requesting a background check and and makes an appt. for fingerprints if applicable.
2. District Admin responds to the CORI request and sends the application to the potential volunteer
3. The potential volunteer submits the application with a copy of the a valid license
4. Then the submission for the CORI occurs
5. The CORI approval can then take some time to be approved (this time varies)
If potential volunteers and district administrators are able to respond promptly and fingerprinting appointments are completed in a timely manner, the process takes about 3 weeks. That said, if there is a delay in any one of these steps, it can take longer. So if parents are interested in volunteering or chaperoning any time this year, it would be wise to go through the CORI process as soon as possible.
**CORI is good for 3 years. Some of our third grade parents who have been volunteering, and are interested in volunteering this year, and may need to be updated.
