Mary Kleekamp Named Director of Special Education
Mary Kleekamp has been named the Director of Special Education for the School District of Washington, effective July 1, 2024.
Kleekamp has spent the last 17 years on the staff at Washington High School. She started at WHS as a special education teacher for nine years and then moved into her current role of assistant principal for the last eight years. Click here for the story.
Stacey Secor Named South Point Elementary Principal
Secor has spent the last 13 years at Washington Middle School. She was the coordinator for the No Excuses Program for eight years and most recently, served as assistant principal for the last five years. Click here for the story.

Washington High School Celebrates FFA Week
Washington High School celebrated National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Week February 20-23. Chris Dunard, WHS Agriculture Education instructor and FFA adviser, and his students participated in activities at WHS. A canned food drive also was hosted by FFA during the week. Washington Middle School Spelling Bee
Washington Middle School held its spelling bee on Monday, February 5. Language Arts teacher Karen Bruning served as coordinator of the spelling bee with the help of Counselor Tracy Helm. The final online spelling bee consisted of 26 students who won their classroom level spelling bell, which qualified them for the final. Click here for the story.
Jordan Scheer Children's Relay for Life Scheduled for April 26; Registration Deadline March 8
The 19th Annual Jordan Scheer Memorial Children’s Relay for Life is scheduled for Friday, April 26, at Scanlan Stadium on the Washington High School campus from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The deadline to register is March 8. Click here for the story.

The Washington High School Project Graduation Committee is holding a yard sign fundraiser for School District of Washington families. Signs are available for all students who are graduating from kindergarten, elementary (sixth grade), middle school (eighth grade) and high school (12th grade). Click here for more details.
Curriculum Review Committee
The School District of Washington curriculum department would love your input. Please consider joining our curriculum review committee. This committee would meet once or twice this spring, based on need. We will review our curriculum process, seek feedback on changes to curriculum that is going to the Board for approval and offer valuable input. These meetings will take place in the evening. Meetings will begin in April. Click here to fill out a survey to join the committee.
