MIS Students track Christmas Trees around the Country!
Each of our 4th graders at Mooresville Intermediate School made tags to be attached to the Christmas trees that are being shipped out for sale from Barr Evergreen Farms. When the tags are found on purchased trees, it gives directions and information to the buyer that takes them to our 4th Grade Tree Tag Project website! There they are prompted to fill out a short questionnaire to help track the tree’s travel. The tags also have the student's class information so they can communicate and be a pen pal back the 4th grade class. The tags also get tracked on a virtual map where students can see where their tree tags ended up across the entire country! This ties directly to their Social Studies curriculum as they continue to study North Carolina natural resources and economics!

MMS 7th Grade Social Studies Students find their Inner Explorer!
In Mrs. Hamilton's class, students worked in small groups to research an early world explorer. First, they learned about their explorer by researching biographical information to summarize the main accomplishments of their explorer. Once the research was finished, students came up with an idea for their presentation. Some created segments for 60 minutes, CNN10, the History Channel, or created their own action news report. Once they had an idea, they used their research to write a script for their video, utilizing an online teleprompter. When they were ready to record, students selected appropriate costumes and dressed like their explorer as they filmed their video in front of the green screen. After filming, students used Discovery Education to locate video footage to import for the background. After cropping, editing, and mixing their videos, students created title pages and citation pages. The final step was to download the videos and present them in class to educate their peers about their explorer. Check out a few pictures and one of the videos below!
