Help Wanted for Wax Museum Research!
In a few weeks we are going to begin our wax museum research. Based on how things went with our animal research, I feel like I'm going to need some extra hands and eyes during the process. We will be doing the research during writing from 10:50-11:45 daily. I don't have a nailed down start date yet, as we are still working on our animal reports. But, I'm shooting for the week of Feb. 11 to get started. If you are interested in spending some time with us helping kids find answers to specific biographical questions in supplied websites using their ipad, let me know and then when I have dates for sure I can get back with you. Please don't feel like you need to come everyday of this 8-10 day research process, even if you can help just once I would greatly appreciate it!
Swimming is Coming- March 18th- April 3rd
Each child will need a swimsuit and towel daily. One piece suits for girls please! More info to come as the date nears.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Reading
We started a new unit in reading we are reviewing and increasing the difficulity of making inferences and using those to predict. It is important that 2nd graders understand how to find evidence in the text AND put that together with their own experiences to make an inference about a passage. This will be necessary for success next year!
Math
word problems involving length
estimating length to the nearest inch
determining the correct unit of measurement- inches, feet, yards
Comparing lengths of objects
Goals for Subtraction Facts
Level M by March 8
Level Z by May 22
Once a student reaches Level Z and can do at least 95 out of 100 subtraction problems in 5 minutes they move to multiplication facts.
English and Writing
In writing, we finished up our animal research- and we are learning how to put all of those facts together into a report! Almost done with our reports- just need to revise and edit and then publish! If we can have full days of school we will be able to finish them next week- and THEN we can start our wax museum research!
