Please welcome Mrs. Wright to our team! Mrs. Wright is with us from Westminster and will be completing her student teaching with Mrs. AuBuchon this semester. We are excited to have her with us!
Unit Objective:
8RL1D: Using appropriate text, determine the theme(s) of a text and analyze its development over the course of a text; provide an objective summary of the text.
This Week in ELA:
Mon (1/11)- Informational reading and background information on the Holocaust and finishing our introductory assignment "Digging into WWII". Reading of Rose Blanche.
Tues (1/12) - Finding context clues within informational writing; RAPP practice on comprehension questions over WWII articles. Readworks articles assigned.
Wed (1/13) - Background information and introduction to WWII. Vocabulary related to novel study assigned.
Thur (1/14) - Informational reading articles on WWII and RAPP practice over comprehension questions. Readworks article assigned.
Fri (1/15) - Introduction to Boy in the Striped Pajamas novel. Unit background information; RAPP practice on informational reading/writing. Readworks articles of the week are due.

Students will be working on Exact Path, a program that is designed to help students who may struggle in certain areas or give enrichment to students who might be ready for more. Below is a link you can click on for resources.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE
This week in 8th grade science we will be continuing our unit about Chemical and Physical Changes.
The unit objectives are:
Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after a reaction to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
Develop and use a model to describe mass is conserved during a chemical reaction.

Monday/Tuesday: NWEA testing
Wednesday/Thursday: More chemical and physical reaction stations: Students will be deciding if the stations are chemical or physical reactions: Discuss the conservation of mass law and its connection to reactions.
Friday/Monday: Conservation of Mass experiment with glow sticks: Bringing it all together--assessment over the chemical and physical reactions.

Social Studies
Week at a Glance:
This week in social studies we are exploring the Jefferson Era. Students will learn about landmark Supreme Court cases, Judicial Review, and the Elastic Clause.
- Monday - No School
- Tuesday/Wednesday - Judicial Review: Students will be analyzing landmark Supreme Court cases. Assignment: Judicial Review Edpuzzle
- Thursday/Friday - Students will learning about the Elastic Clause and how it is still used today. Class will be taking notes and virtual learners will have an Edpuzzle.
Distance Learning: All students who are learning from home will be able to access these lessons on Google Classroom. They will be assigned and due the day the student has class. If there are questions, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.
Learning Target for the Week:
Explain how judicial review was developed as a check on the legislative and executive branch. Explain how the Elastic Clause justified decisions made by the government.
