Attention 5th Grade Families
BSD Math Placement Testing for 5th Grade Families
About 9 out of 10 BSD students will be enrolled in “Math 6/7” for math next year. If you would like your student evaluated to determine whether “Math 7/8" or “Alg/Geo/Stats 1” would be appropriate instead, please see the BSD Math Placement Testing site to request testing.
All testing will take place in May at your student’s school during their school day. There will be no testing for current students after May. If you have any questions, please refer to the FAQ on the BSD Math Placement Testing site.
5th Grade Families: AVID Applications are Open
Middle school AVID Elective applications are now open. AVID is a national program with a goal of closing the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID Elective classes include tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities, and academic success skills. Additionally, AVID students engage in activities centered around exploring college and career opportunities and their own agency. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Ms. Howery, our school counselor, is teaching an introductory lesson about AVID in all fifth-grade classes so your students can begin thinking about whether this program would be a good fit for them. If your student is interested, complete the application HERE! This year’s application deadline is Wednesday, March 13th.

Information packets including guidelines, registration, and all the details went home in backpacks last week.
In addition to the option to participate in the Science Fair, Oak Hills PTO will be hosting an OPTIONAL Lunch Time Science Fair Club beginning Tuesday, February 27. Students do not need to register to attend in advance. They can choose from week to week whether they wish to attend.
To make the Science Fair a success, the students will need help in various ways at various times between now and April 11. Please take a moment to review the possible volunteer opportunities and add your name to learn more in the coming weeks.

Helpful Website Buttons--Report Absences and Going Home Plan Changes
Absences and dismissal changes can be reported to us via the Oak Hills website. There are buttons where you can click and report an absence or changes to how your child will be going home.
For dismissal, please do your best to report the changes before 1:00pm since this is when we will be delivering the information to our teachers and students. If it is after 1pm, please call the main office to report the change and not the website button.
Thank you in advance for utilizing this communication tool. It will free up our phone lines for families, staff, and community members who urgently need to get in touch with the office.
