Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Assistant Principal
Dear Parents,
Dr. Williams is “roughing it” at Rock Eagle 4H Camp on our annual 5th grade trip. Many thanks to the 5th grade team of teachers who worked tirelessly to organize details and ensure our 5th graders have a memorable trip. Our parent chaperones are also vital to the success of the Rock Eagle trip. We appreciate you! I’ve included a few early pictures below. Look for more in next week’s newsletter or Twitter.
Please note that Walk to School Day has been rescheduled to next Friday, September 29. We apologize for any confusion regarding the date.
As we settle into the school year, I’d like to offer a few reminders in regards to attendance and transportation changes. We know that students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. While some absences are unavoidable (illness, family emergencies, etc), we encourage you to help your child build strong habits in regards to school attendance. On the CCE homepage, you’ll find a “Clinic” page which provides guidelines to help determine when children are too sick for school and how long they should stay out after being sick. Please remember to always alert your child’s teacher and the clinic staff if your child is diagnosed with a communicable disease. This helps us keep all children safe. Lots of helpful information can be found on the clinic page. I encourage you to browse it at your leisure.
It is very important that your child and their teacher know how they will get home each day. Transportation changes MUST be submitted in writing. Transportation changes will not be accepted over the phone. Please do not rely on email as a method to communicate transportation changes. If a teacher is absent or unable to check their email during the day, the message may not be received in a timely manner. Our PTO has created a standard transportation form that can be printed from the CCE website. This form is also included as a separate attachment in this messenger communication. Please print a few copies for your family’s use. Remember that if your child needs to ride a bus other than their regularly assigned bus, you will need to obtain authorization from our transportation supervisor, Crystal Brooks. This should be reserved for emergency child care situations only and not play dates, etc.
Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to Dr. Williams or me if you have any concerns or questions about student health and/or safety. Many other guidelines and procedures can be found in the PTO Parent Handbook.
There are so many exciting things planned for the Fall at CCE: Family Literacy Night, GLO for It, Milton Homecoming, Hands On CCE and more! Keep an eye out for the weekly newsletter from Dr. Williams to stay informed. Enjoy the beautiful weekend ahead!
New Date for Family Literacy Night!
Due to Hurricane Irma, we are rescheduling Family Literacy Night for Tuesday, October 3rd from 6-7pm. You won’t want to miss this fun opportunity to explore how we are creating avid readers and writers throughout our school. After you and your student visit their classroom, come by the media center to learn about the bands of text complexity, and of course, enjoy some cookies and lemonade. You’ll also want to take a peek in our extensive book room – where you can see the benefits of your PTO dollars hard at work! Hope to see you all on October 3rd!
IOWA Assessments
One more week of testing to go! 5th graders will take the IOWA Assessments September 24-29. The order of tests will be as follows:
Monday – Reading
Tuesday – Writing Expression
Wednesday – Math & Computation
Thursday – Social Studies/Science
Friday – Vocabulary, Spelling, Punctuation, & Capitalization
You can support your child by:
· Make sure they get a good night's sleep
· Make sure they have access to a healthy breakfast
· Make sure they arrive on time (in class by 7:40) each day during the testing window.
· Please do not schedule any appointments between the hours of 7:40 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. We will not be able to check out students between those hours.
· We kindly request no visitors or volunteers during testing week so that we may provide the optimal testing environment for our students.
We expect to receive our score reports in mid December. You will receive a parent copy of your individual child's score report. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly: richardsona1@fultonschools.org or 470-254-7055.
