WINTER SAFETY and RECESS
WINTER SAFETY
As winter weather sets in, safety to and from school and appropriate winter dress becomes an even more important issue for our children. We ask all parents to review the following guidelines with their children.
* No snowballing at or while going to and from school. A snowball could easily injure someone. Also, throwing a snowball at a car or truck is unlawful and dangerous.
* Many children are injured yearly by falling on ice or by sliding into the street. Children are discouraged from sliding on any possibly slippery surface.
* All children should have boots for the sloppy and snowy days, but should change to shoes in school.
* Please remind your children that even though it’s cold outside, DON’T ACCEPT RIDES FROM STRANGERS. If a student is a walker, they need to go straight to school in the morning and go straight home after school.
OUTDOOR RECESS: The recreation portion of the lunch hour will be held outdoors whenever possible. For this reason, please be sure your children dress appropriately (coats, mittens, hats, scarves, boots) for the weather. In order for students to play "in the snow" they must have snow pants as well. The condition of the play area and temperature with wind-chill are used to determine whether we have indoor or outdoor recess.

Important information from PTA - Please read.
Our school counselor, Mr. Schibley, is bringing an incredible assembly to Whitney called "The Ned Show". This show focuses on anti-bullying and is free to our school! To receive this free assembly, we are asked to sell yo yos the week following the show. We need your help on the week of December 12th-16th from 8:45am-9:30am, to sell yo yos in the front lobby of Whitney as the students arrive to school. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thank you so much for your help! Candis Swiger CoPTA President cswiger_20@hotmail.com 216-385-6486

For parents of Kindergarten students
Parents of Kindergarten Students:
Please look for your child's score report for the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) to come home with your child next week. This was an assessment given during the first two months of school by your child's teacher and shows how ready your child was for kindergarten based on six areas: Social Skills (including the way students learn), Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Well-Being and Motor Development. Your child has since learned additional skills and knowledge that may not be reflected in this score report. This Welcome to Kindergarten video explains Ohio's Kindergarten Assessment. If you have any questions about this report, please contact your child's teacher or building principal.
