Second grade food drive supports Gladstone Food Pantry
After learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., second graders in Kassy Babeckos' class at John Wetten Elementary decided to give back to their community by doing a food drive. They far exceeded their 50 pound goal, donating 498 pounds of food to the Gladstone Food Pantry.

GEF seeks sponsors, donations for auction to support schools
"Last year's event raised over $37,000 for Gladstone schools," said Executive Director Tammy Tracy. "This provided amazing opportunities for kids, from band instruments, kindergarten story workshops, and middle school art supplies, to biotechnology equipment and a live virtual tour of Egyptian historic sites."
This year's event will feature student performances and interviews, with auction items like vacation get-aways, gift baskets, wine tasting tours, and fishing trips. All proceeds will be used to support Gladstone youths and education.
To donate auction items or to become an event sponsor, contact Tammy Tracy at 503.655.2777 or email tracyt@gladstone.k12.or.us. Information on how to register for the event will be shared this spring.
Fourth graders in Wendy Mudd's Class have been exploring art by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch.
Gladstone Schools seeks Budget Committee members
The Gladstone School Board is recruiting volunteers to serve on the Budget Committee. The responsibility of the committee is to review the district’s proposed budget, review the financial programs of the district, and approve an annual budget.
“This is a great opportunity to volunteer and serve the school community. Budget committee members learn about school funding sources and education expenditures,” said Superintendent Bob Stewart.
The appointed Budget Committee members must be at least 18 years old, registered voters, and living in the Gladstone School District at least one year prior to serving. District employees are not eligible.
Participation includes an orientation meeting in late February or early March, a budget meeting on May 4, and, if needed, a second budget meeting on May 18.
To apply, contact Natalie Weninger at 503.655.2777, ext. 590 or email weningern@gladstone.k12.or.us. The deadline to apply is February 8.
