Principal Pattiey's Post
Some thoughts for this Week
Edition #30
Hello Woodsy Owls,
I am hoping that everyone had some valuable family time and caught up on some R-n-R.
We have some exciting things happening in April and May, and I hope that you can join us for some of the exciting events.
The Bootleggers' Ball is coming up this month. I have my tickets, and I hope to see most of you there. I cannot believe how incredibly PHEF helps support our school. The amount of support they provide is something I have never seen before any place I have worked. If you can help in anyway, please do. We are looking for raffle prizes, and the committee is always looking for volunteers to help work at these events. HOWEVER, the biggest way you can help support those who support us is by attending the event. This will show your commitment to education in PHUSD as well as provide you with a wonderful evening with fellow parents and community members. There is more information about this event further down in this post.
Our Site Council is continuing to read through the results of the family surveys and prepare goals for our upcoming year. The information submitted has been very eye-opening and will be extremely helpful in setting our future goals.
Our third graders are getting ready for upcoming state testing. This year marks the first year they will be involved in this process. Below this opening greeting is a button you can click on and take a practice or training test. The ones the students will do are called Smarter Balanced (they are the first tests listed.) I find it very eye opening to look at these. The rigor has increased in the last twenty years in public schools incredibly. We plan on keeping the stress level as low as possible. We just want each student to show us as accurately as possible... where they are on their academic journey. This is just one glimpse into a student. It does help us as a family-school team to know where each child needs extra help or extra enrichment. These tests do not affect report cards grades. If you have any question about the testing process, please reach out.
I look forward to seeing you at one of the many upcoming events listed below.

April 16th & 17th (rain-out dates will be April 23rd & 24th) Annual Jog-a-Thon
Who is ready for our most fun fundraiser?!?!
The Jog-a-thon is our biggest opportunity to raise money for our school! In 2023, we had our best year ever and raised over $30,000! Can it be done again?
This year we are hoping to raise $20,000 to put towards our two year goal of replacing the kindergarten playground. Updating this area is much needed as most of the equipment is 30 years old. It will not only allow the students to participate in more group learning activities and have more engaging recess activities but it will also provide a great area for our whole community to benefit from.
We are doing Jog-a-Thon a little different this year. We have done away with the paper pledge forms. We are only accepting PLEDGES ONLINE, last year 2/3 of the donations came in that way.
You’ll be able to share your child’s pledge page by email, Facebook, and Twitter.
Students find sponsors. Ask family, friends, and neighbors. Sponsors can pledge per lap amounts or a fixed donation. -https://app.99pledges.com/fund/sierrahill2/addme - to make ONLINE pledges.
Students will jog/walk on April 16th and April 17th. The average student runs 25 laps (top runners about 40). The laps will be done in the bus circle.
Rain out dates are Tuesday, April 23th and Wednesday, April 24th.
Parents are highly encouraged to cheer their children on during the Jog-a-Thon!
Start spreading the word and get ready for another amazing Jog-a-Thon!!
