Announcing the 2021 Gayman Elementary Science Fair!
Calling all scientists! Consider participating in our Virtual Science Fair on March 30th by completing a project individually, with sibling(s), or with socially distanced partners. Projects will be shared via Flipgrid videos. The Science Fair is a great way for all Gayman students to come together and share our learning and love for science! Click here to sign up by February 16th. Each participant needs to complete the contract in Forms, even if working in a group. For more information, visit the Science Fair website. We can’t wait to see your projects this year!
Health Screenings
The Central Bucks School nurses usually start the state mandated health screenings in the beginning of the school year. These screenings include height, weight, vision and hearing on every child. This year is different, so screenings are starting now. The Nurse’s Office will follow the Health and Safety plan guidelines and keep students at 6-foot distance while conducting the screenings. More information regarding the health screenings for students in the Virtual Academy will be coming soon.
Our top priority is student health. However, if you have any concerns and would prefer your child to not participate in the screenings, please feel free to email me at shedges@cbsd.org before February 12th.
Thank you!

A Peek into Our Classrooms
Congratulations to our January Winner
Boomerang Award
Do you know a child who has gone above and beyond to show that he/she cares? Perhaps this child demonstrated their thoughtfulness through an extraordinary service project.
In February, CB Cares will recognize students who demonstrate "Asset #26: Caring". Young person values service to others, in their family, school, or community.
Nominate your caring student by clicking on this application or by emailing Liz Meier at emeier@cbsd.org by Friday, February 26th.
Book of the Month: Responsibility
In February, the book of the month is But It’s Not My Fault. This story is focused on accepting responsibility. The main character learns not to blame others for mistakes or try to find fault, and instead practices taking responsibility.
Ask your son/daughter: "What does responsibility mean?" and "How can someone accept responsibility for his/her actions?"
Absences
Online Absences: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent until we receive the communication from parents. Note: If a student logs-in initially, but leaves the call or does not engage, the comment "Virtually Cut" will be added to the comments section.
Feel free to reach out to Christine Stevens (cstevens@cbsd.org) with any questions.
Live Streaming
Live streaming is available for any student who is absent more than 2 days because the child tested positive for COVID-19, or the child is a close contact of someone who tested positive. Live streaming is also available for any student who traveled outside of Pennsylvania.
Once a teacher is notified, we will make arrangements including a materials pick-up at school. Live streaming will begin on day 3 of the absence, or earlier if feasible. This instruction may vary slightly depending upon the academic needs and age of the student. Live streaming will end when the isolation period is complete. Note: knowing that the majority of students in the class are in-person, there will be times when the teacher is not in camera view.
Family Travel
If your child(ren) is traveling, complete a Request for Approved Absence Form. In compliance with the district's Health and Safety Plan, students who travel will not be able to return for a period of 10 days without testing, or after 7 days with a negative test on or after day 5.
Any questions about this procedure can be directed to Christine Stevens in the Gayman Office, at cstevens@cbsd.org.
Questions about COVID-19?
Our school nurse, Mrs. Sara Hedges, is here to help! If you have questions, feel free to email or call her. She can help with:
- Determine if your child(ren) is a close contact.
- Explain the isolation and quarantine process.
- Provide guidance for symptoms and management.
- And more! .... just ask.
Mrs. Sara Hedges email address is shedges@cbsd.org, or call the Gayman main office at 267-893-4350 to be connected to the Health Room.
